Blocker to present senior voice recital at Ouachita Nov. 16
November 08, 2018 - OBU News Bureau
Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Caylee Blocker in her senior
voice recital on Friday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. in McBeth Recital Hall in Ouachita’s
Mabee Fine Arts Center. The recital is free and open to the public.
Blocker, a senior choral music education major from North Richland Hills, Texas, explained
that her recital is a story about relationships, including lost love, betrayal and
happiness.
“I am very excited to share the story of my recital with the audience,” Blocker said.
“I chose to tell a story through the pieces I chose and the order I have placed them
in.”
Blocker will begin the recital with Maury Yeston’s “December Songs: December Snow,”
followed by “La Farfalletta” by Vincenzo Bellini and “Les Papillons” by Ernest Chausson.
Next, she will perform “Myrthen: Was will die einsame Träne” and “Lorelei” by Clara
Schumann and “Visits to St. Elizabeth’s” by Ned Rorem before concluding with “December
Songs: What a Relief” by Maury Yeston.
“This recital is a roller coaster of emotions and experience, which reflects my college
career,” Blocker said. “I have grown so much during my time here at Ouachita thanks
to my professors, peers and coworkers, and I am only here accomplishing this show
with their support.”
Blocker is a student of John Alec Briggs, lecturer of music, and is to be accompanied
by pianist Kristen La Madrid. Blocker is involved in the Ouachita Singers and is a
member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity.
