Ouachita Wind Ensemble to present spring concert March 4.March 04, 2019 - Tiffany Lee

The Ouachita Baptist University Wind Ensemble will present its spring concert on Monday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will begin with “American Overture” by Joseph Willcox Jenkins and “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” by Fisher Tull. The Wind Ensemble will continue with “Concerto for Marimba,” including the movements “1. Greetings” and “4. Farewell” by Ney Rosaura; Richie Blosch, a senior music major from Fort Worth, Texas, will perform a solo on marimba. The concert will proceed with “A Grainger Set,” with movements “Irish Tune from County Derry” and “Shepherd’s Hey,” by Percy Aldridge Grainger and edited by R. Mark Rogers, followed by “Impressions” by Julie Giroux. The concert will conclude with Brant Karrick’s “J.S. Jig.”

“My favorite part of the show is when we play the piece ‘Impressions’ by Julie Giroux,” said Ellie Hooten, a sophomore history and secondary education major from Bryant, Ark. “It is beautiful, and fun at the same time.

“Richie Blosch also plays the marimba for the concerto piece. ... He is very talented and quick with the mallets,” she added.

The concert also will be livestreamed at www.obu.edu/band. For more information, contact Dr. Craig Hamilton at [email protected] or (870) 245-5137.
