Your adventure begins
The first 100 days of school
July 02, 2024 - Felley LawsonAugust is just a few weeks away, Tigers – your freshman year at Ouachita is about to begin!
The first days of your very first semester are incredibly special. Lots of folks have planned and worked together for months packing the calendar with events to help you make the most of every second outside class during your first hundred days on campus. There’ll be tons of new faces and experiences, for sure. Wondering what it’ll be like? Take a look!
First up: An adventure in the beautiful Ouachita National Forest that will include camping, river tubing, hiking, swimming, worship and meeting classmates, faculty and staff during the annual Freshman Outdoor Orientation Trip …
... followed by move-in time and your official Welcome to Ouachita’s World! WOW – we can’t wait for you to get here!
Get to know some people representing local churches and businesses during Spotlight on Arkadelphia …
… and get away for a weekend retreat with Campus Ministries.
Whatever you’re interested in, you’ll find opportunities to connect with other students who like the same things you do. Two fun ways to make a ton of friends? Join an intramural team or a Tiger Tunes show – or both!
Experience campus-wide worship during your first chapel and Refuge services.
There’s nothing like your first Tiger tailgate and football game at Cliff Harris Stadium! #BringYourRoar
The Ouachita family gives more than 40,000 volunteer hours every year to our community through Tiger Serve Day, sponsored by the Elrod Center for Family & Community. Come be part of that tradition.
Some of our favorite events are packed into Homecoming Week: the Purple Plaza Party, Family Weekend, alumni receptions and tailgates, the ballgame (of course) and Tiger Tunes!
Campus clubs sponsor date nights during TWIRP, which wraps up with Campus Ministries’ Barn Bash.
Arkadelphia is home to one of the oldest, most unique college football rivalries in the country! See for yourself when Ouachita plays Henderson State University right across the street during the legendary Battle of the Ravine!
Women who are thinking about pledging a social club in the spring will get to learn about the process during Rush Roundup.
We’ll wrap up our first hundred days with two important traditions: First, as a campus community, we’ll collect food and pack Thanksgiving meal baskets for area families. The baskets are delivered through the Elrod Center.
Then before everyone heads home for the holiday, we’ll get together in The Commons cafeteria for a campus-wide Thanksgiving lunch with all the trimmings. (Look for Dr. Sells at the turkey-carving station!) Heads up: Caf Thanksgiving lunch is iconic. The line will be long, so get there early!
And that’s your first hundred days at Ouachita, Tigers! What do you think? We hope you’re as excited to get started as we are to see you here on campus! Questions? Contact Allison Kizzia, director of Student Life, at [email protected] or (870) 245-5549.
