The Women's Discipleship Program is Changing...

January 01, 2020

It’s always good to evaluate the ministries you’re in charge of; even the ones that seem to be going great. To take a step back, ask yourself a few questions. Ultimately, are our goals being reached? What can be changed to reach those goals better?  Are there people you should be reaching with this ministry that you’re not? Obviously, there are many ways you can step back and evaluate, but those were the few that came to mind when I thought about our Women’s Discipleship program.

First off, I never really wrote out a goal or mission statement specifically for Women’s Discipleship. It fell under the umbrella of the general CM mission which is “to foster meaningful relationships with Christ among students, to guide them in fruitful ministry, discipleship and fellowship, and to train leaders who will continue to engage the world and serve the church”, but I had nothing specifically for WD. I just kind of tried to do what Hayley did before me, which by the way was an amazing job. I am so thankful for the impact she had on this ministry! Don’t get me wrong, I had ideas for what the goals were, and tried to communicate that with our small-group leaders, but ultimately that led to miscommunication and some confusion. I’ve learned from this past year a simple thing that will seem like common sense: People don’t know what you expect from them if you do not tell them. Communication is really important, and necessary for everyone involved.

At the end of last semester I thought a lot about how we could change the Women’s Discipleship program to reach more girls on campus. Change can be scary; especially when you don’t know if the change is going to be a good thing or flop. So, I talked a lot with our student leaders and went about making a vision for the program. Below you will see the new outline of the Women’s Discipleship program. Our goals and how we plan to accomplish those goals. We felt like changing the name would help with the transition, so WD is now Veritas.

Please join us in praying that this change would ultimately glorify God and impact His Kingdom! That more girls on campus would be reached, that girls who do not normally come to “bible study” would get involved, and that hearts would be changed. Pray that girls on campus would be encouraged and challenged to boldly live a life of discipleship for Jesus Christ!

Veritas: Women Seeking Truth in Christ

  • Theme verse: Philippians 1:9-11 “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”
  • Veritas is a Greek word meaning "truth."  Veritas’ mission is to foster a community for the women of Ouachita that encourages individuals to grow in their love and knowledge of Christ. The community Veritas provides is tri-fold.

  1. Veritas’ bi-monthly group meetings are for any girl on campus, no commitment is required. During these times, we will bring in women from different walks of life to challenge and encourage our students. These will be Monday nights at 9PM in Berry Chapel.
  2. Veritas’ prayer partners are for those who do not have time to commit to a small group study, but would like to be connected with an upperclassman to pray for them and meet with occasionally throughout the semester. Maybe you don’t have time to commit to a small group, but still would like to be poured into, we believe that prayer is powerful, and we hope you do to! Your prayer partner will be committed to faithfully praying for you and meeting with you at least once a month.
  3. Veritas’ small groups are for those who want to commit to meeting weekly with a small group. Small groups are led by upperclassmen/women from the community who desire to equip, challenge, and encourage students in their walk with Christ. Small groups provide a Biblical community where girls can find accountability, study the Bible, and do life together.
