A Weekly Word: Matthew 7:12
January 01, 2020
As my 6-year-old son headed to school one morning, I had a sinking feeling. There was a “situation” in his kindergarten classroom that he would potentially encounter that day and it had me concerned. I was most fearful about how this scenario might affect my child. As I spoke to my husband about my fears that day regarding our son, it occurred to us that “he is not there today only to be impacted by what goes on around him, but to have an impact on others around him.” While I’ll admit that this thought did not bring this worrisome mom great comfort in that moment, I do believe there was wisdom in this insight.
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Matthew 7:12
We each have an impact – good or bad – in kindergarten or college, at home or at work.
We have an impact. As is true for you and me each day, even my kindergartner was placed
in his circumstance with the opportunity to have an impact on those around him … to
do unto others … to treat others as he would like to be treated. What do you wish
others would do for you? How do you wish to be treated? Do unto to others and treat
others in that very way. For this is the Law and the Prophets.
