Academic Success Center helps with the academic grind

January 01, 2020
TWIRP week was a blast, class schedules are becoming routine, reading quizzes and tests are well on their way and Tiger Tunes is right around the corner! You may have already begun the college routine of rising early and retiring late, a common tradition when facing the inevitable…homework, papers, quizzes and tests.

The Academic Success Center would like to invite you to take advantage of its many resources designed especially to help you eliminate the stress associated with college life. We cannot add more hours to your day, but we can provide you with helpful study tips and accommodating tutorial services.

If you find yourself getting discouraged by difficult concepts or confused by class lectures, consider our tutoring options:

  • Small group tutoring reviews class concepts at a slower pace and/or explains them in a way that is more easily understood.

  • If you feel you need to focus on a specific area of difficulty because you are struggling or falling behind, you may find it more beneficial to take advantage of one-on-one tutoring.

  • The Academic Success Center also recognizes the needs of students who may not need regularly scheduled tutoring sessions. Walk-in lab tutoring is designed to meet the occasional needs of those who may have last-minute homework questions or are seeking supplementary explanations to complete an assignment.

Each of these tutoring groups is facilitated by trained peer tutors. Small group tutoring and one-on-one tutoring is by appointment only. Walk-in labs, however, are stationed throughout campus and require no appointment. To view our weekly schedule, go to: https://www.obu.edu/success/tutoring-schedule-2/.

If you are just struggling and have no idea what you need, that’s fine, too! Come by and chat with us; our staff if dedicated to helping you!

And remember, just because something is difficult or challenging doesn’t mean you should give up! If success was easy, everyone would have it, right? One of the best parts of my job is working one-on-one with students to learn more about their journey and become a part of their support system here at Ouachita!

For additional information and a more in-depth look at our services, please visit www.obu.edu/success or call us at 870-245-5381.
