Fall at Ouachita: Pumpkin spice and everything nice
January 01, 2020
It’s the most wonderful time of the year – fall at Ouachita! Personally, I believe
that this season is magical no matter where you are, but at Ouachita it can be even
better. There are so many reasons to love fall at Ouachita. Everything seems to get
cozier as the weather drops to the 60s and 70s. It is now socially acceptable for
sweaters, scarves and fuzzy socks (however, I ignored that rule and broke out my sweaters
at the beginning of September).
Once the leaves start to change, Ouachita’s campus starts to look like it came straight
out of an oil painting. I mean, those bright yellow ginkgo trees outside of McClellan?
Don’t even get me started. Those are absolutely mind-blowing. Walking to class gets
easier when you know you get to see trees like that everyday. Another recent discovery
I have made is that homework becomes a lot less horrible when you’re outside. The
balcony outside of the student center is a great spot for studying, especially with
a warm cup of coffee in hand.
Speaking of coffee, the weather changes, the leaves change and so do the drinks at
Dr. Jack’s! Being the basic white girl that I am, pumpkin spice lattes are always
blessing my life (PSL? More like PTL!). Salted caramel mochas and caramel apple cider
are also perfect options to get you through any stressful day. I’m ultra thankful
for all of the coffee that’s available on campus. God bless Dr. Jack’s, am I right?
Chilly fall weekends are the best time for movie marathons. Invite your friends over,
pop some popcorn and make a day of it! There are plenty of good horror movies out
there to get you into the Halloween spirit, but if you’re not into that, Disney movies
are always a good choice. And if TV shows are more your speed, season two of Stranger Things is on Netflix now. That’s all you need right there; let’s be real!
Fall is my all-time favorite season because it isn’t an extreme. It’s not too hot
or too cold. It’s a perfect in-between. Arkadelphia is finally starting to cool down,
and I think (I hope) that sweater weather is here to stay! I hope and pray that your
fall semester is filled to the brim with all kinds of blessings and quality memories!
Stay cozy, and stay warm!
