Ouachita to host “Unseen Imprints” exhibit by guest artist Trinity Kai through Dec. 11
October 27, 2020 - Jessica Daniell
Ouachita Baptist University’s Rosemary Adams Department of Art and Design will host “Unseen Imprints,” an exhibit by guest artist Trinity Kai, beginning Monday, Nov. 2. The exhibit will be displayed in the Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery on the first floor of Moses-Provine Hall through December 11 and is free and open to the public.
According to Kai’s show statement, “Unseen Imprints” is “a collection of works that examine the emotional impact that humans leave on one another.” The exhibit includes self-portraiture, written language and materiality to express the personal experiences that have shaped the artist, particularly her experiences as a person with Albinism.
“Through this body of work, I want people to contemplate what and how they feel when looking and engaging with the work, to recognize their own imprints and be aware of the imprints they may place on others,” Kai said.
“Trinity is exploring discrimination, stereotypes and objectifications through her own personal story,” said Carey Roberson, associate professor of Art and Design. “The work is powerful, rich in meaning and yet elegantly beautiful.”
“This work is a testimony to her strength, persistence and much needed voice,” Roberson added.
Born and raised in Little Rock, Ark., Kai’s works examining societal systems of discrimination have been exhibited nationwide and reside in the permanent collection at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Kai earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UALR in 2017 and is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Ouachita’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to noon; the gallery will be closed Nov. 25-29 for Ouachita's Thanksgiving break. For more information, contact Carey Roberson at [email protected] or (501) 245-4655.
