Ouachita to host “Say Go Tiger Day” for high school students on Feb. 16

February 04, 2009 - OBU News Bureau

Ouachita Baptist University will host “Say Go Tiger Day” on Monday, Feb. 16, as part of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education’s “Say Go College Week” Feb. 16-22.

“Say Go College Week” is designed to educate high school students, parents and the general public about the value of a college education.

Ouachita’s “Say Go Tiger Day,” which is open to high school students throughout the region, will be held on the university’s Arkadelphia campus from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will gather in Walker Conference Center at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and an informational session about admissions, financial aid and related issues. Campus tours will be available during the afternoon.

“Ouachita is excited about ‘Say Go Tiger Day’ because it gives Ouachita and the Department of Higher Education an ideal opportunity to partner on what we both stand for – educating young men and women,” explained Keisha Pittman, Ouachita’s director of admissions counseling. “So many times, we ask a lot of our local community and the communities around us and this allows us an opportunity to give back and reinvest in them.

“Our real goal with this event is to educate families on the process of applying to college and for financial aid, but more than that, to get students thinking earlier that college really is a possibility and that there are things they can do, before they are seniors, to get ready and prepare themselves,” Pittman added. “There are many challenges that face students and families as they think about college and we want to be available to walk them through every part of the process.”

In addition to Ouachita’s “Say Go Tiger Day” activities on Feb. 16, neighboring Henderson State University will host “Say Go HSU Day” that morning from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The schedules will allow students from area high schools to attend sessions at both universities and return to their schools by the end of the school day.
