2009 Ouachitonian yearbook earns Gold Medalist Award
November 20, 2009 - Meg Gosser
Ouachita Baptist University’s 2009 Ouachitonian yearbook received a Gold Medalist rating, the highest rating given by the Columbia
Scholastic Press Association in New York City.
The yearbook was judged in concept, design, writing, coverage and photography.
“I am proud of the staff for achieving the Gold Medalist Rating,” said Dr. Deborah
Root, chair of OBU’s mass communications department and Ouachitonian adviser. “The 2009 Ouachitonian was the 100th edition of Ouachita’s yearbook. We tried to incorporate the old with
the new, covering the events of the year while including some historical photos and
facts from the past.”
Audra Hinson, a 2009 Ouachita graduate from Little Rock with a double major in mass
communications and Spanish, was the editor-in-chief of the winning 2009 yearbook.
“Earning the Gold Medalist rating means that Audra Hinson did a wonderful job as editor
last year, and it also shows how well the Ouachitonian yearbook staff worked together as a team to create yet another award-winning yearbook,”
said Megan Lindsey, a senior mass communications major from Camden who serves as editor-in-chief
of the 2010 Ouachitonian. “It is truly an honor that our staff shares.”
“Our students are dedicated to producing quality publications, and the 2009 Ouachitonian
was no exception,” Root agreed.
Since 1925, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association has been helping to improve
student publications by evaluating and critiquing publications each year.
