OBU Film Society to host screening of “Vertigo” Feb. 28
February 22, 2010 - Meg Gosser
Ouachita Baptist University’s Film Society will host a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s
classic “Vertigo” on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. in room 330 of Lile Hall on Ouachita’s
campus. Free refreshments will be served, and following the movie, there will be a
drawing for a free T-shirt.
“The OBU Film Society began in the fall of 2007 with the showing of ‘Stranger Than
Fiction,’ starring Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaall and Emma Thompson,” said Dr. Doug
Sonheim, the Clarence and Bonnie Sue Anthony Professor of Bible and Humanities and
chair of OBU’s English department.
Although this event is sponsored by the English Department and the College Society,
it involves several departments on campus. “The Film Society is multidisciplinary,
drawing on the areas of English, mass communications, theatre, musical theatre, philosophy
and religion,” Sonheim said. “All students and faculty are welcome to attend the screenings
of films and to join in conversation following.”
“It’s tradition that following each movie and discussion, everyone who wants to participate
gives his or her favorite line from the movie,” Sonheim added, “and a drawing produces
a lucky winner who gets a T-shirt with the favorite quotation.”
