OBU Instrumental Chamber Concert to be held April 8
April 06, 2010 - Becca Watts
The Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present the Instrumental
Chamber Concert Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth
Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus.
“It is a very nice, eclectic mix of music,” said Dr. Heather Bynum, Ouachita instructor
of clarinet. The evening will include pieces by such composers as G.F. Handel, Bela
Bartok, Clare Grundman, Gustav Holst and Jean Philipe Rameau.
Because it is a concert purely of chamber music, Bynum said the music “emphasizes
a more joint effort among the students.”
The concert will feature the Horn Ensemble directed by Heather Thayer, OBU adjunct
instructor of horn, and the Trombone Ensemble directed by Dr. Josh Bynum, OBU assistant
professor of trombone and low brass. The Clarinet Ensemble and two woodwind quintets
will also perform, directed by Dr. Heather Bynum.
