August 24, 2010 - OBU News Bureau
Ouachita Baptist University’s 17th annual Spotlight on Arkadelphia will feature a new location this year. The campus event will be held at Ouachita’s Heflin Plaza which was dedicated in June.
The annual event, set for Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 8 p.m., is held the night before classes
begin for the fall semester. Spotlight provides an opportunity for area businesses,
churches and civic organizations to spotlight their services for new and returning
students.
Approximately 90 vendors are scheduled to participate in this year’s event which is
expected to attract several hundred students, faculty and staff members. Community
participants typically provide free samples, coupons, brochures and other giveaways
during the two-hour event.
Heflin Plaza, the site of this year’s Spotlight on Arkadelphia, features a 300-foot-long
pedestrian bridge that links the university’s main campus and North campus. The plaza
was dedicated in memory of prominent Little Rock businessman Johnny Heflin, former
chairman of the Ouachita Board of Trustees, and in honor of the Heflin family.
Ouachita Baptist University, a private Christian liberal arts university in Arkadelphia,
recently was named the No. 1 Regional College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for the fourth year in a row. Serving since 1886 as a Christ-centered learning community,
