Ouachita Career Services to host Resume and Cover Letter Workshop Sept. 13
September 10, 2010 - Ben Harrington
Ouachita Baptist University’s Career Services office will host its annual Resume and
Cover Letter writing workshop on Monday, Sept. 13. The workshop will be held in the
Ouachita Commons Alumni Room from 12 noon to 12:50 p.m. It is open to students of
any major.
“The purpose of the workshop is to inform students how to create an effective resume
and cover letter,” said Mallory Moddelmog, director of career services.
The workshop will cover many aspects of preparing a resume and cover letter, including
key sections to include in a resume, do’s and don’ts, what employers are looking for,
basic elements of a cover letter and how to customize a resume and cover letter. Handouts
will be provided, and students will be able to take home a worksheet to help them
begin creating a resume that highlights their best qualities.
The workshop will also introduce students to other available resources Career Services
offers. Moddelmog stated that one of the most important things for students to learn
is how to access the career services website and to be able to upload their resume
onto Tiger Career Connection, the office’s online job and internship posting board.
Moddelmog encourages all students to attend this workshop, especially juniors and
seniors who will be going out in search of a job fairly soon. In addition to the workshop
content for participants, dessert will be provided and door prizes will be awarded.
