Ouachita Pastors’ Conference features study of Galatians Sept. 30

September 28, 2010 - Breanne Goodrum

Ouachita Baptist University will host its annual Pastors’ Conference, presented by the Pruet School of Christian Studies, on Sept. 30 in the Walker Conference Center. Ministers and church leaders are invited to attend to listen and learn from lectures discussing the book of Galatians.

Speakers at this event include Ouachita professors Dr. Joey Dodson, assistant professor of Biblical studies; Dr. Scott Duvall, the J.C. and Mae Fuller Professor of Biblical Studies; Dr. Scott Jackson, assistant professor of Christian ministries; and Dr. C. Marvin Pate, the Elma Cobb Professor of Christian Theology. The coordinator for the event is Dr. Danny Hays, dean of the Pruet School of Christian Studies. Ouachita President Dr. Rex Horne will present the opening welcome.

The book chosen and the conference itself are “designed to equip Arkansas pastors to teach this year’s Winter Bible Study,” Jackson commented. “Many Southern Baptist churches have a tradition of hosting a three- to four-night ‘Winter Bible Study’ where the Biblical book is taught to their congregations, and generally the pastors lead the study.”

Each speaker will address assigned passages from Galatians and will respond to questions arising from the lecture. According to Dodson, "the lectures will survey the overarching argument of the letter and highlight salient points before discussing the contemporary significance of the epistle.”

Ministers who attend the conference will be treated to a continental breakfast as well as lunch, providing an opportunity to fellowship with other ministers and to purchase Pruet School of Christian Study books at discount prices.

The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, and the registration fee is $40 per person.
