Ouachita welcomes guests for Preview Day and Upward Bound Nov. 6
November 01, 2010 - Kathryn Kellogg
Ouachita Baptist University will host visitors to campus Nov. 6 for Fall Preview Day,
hosted by Ouachita’s Office of Admissions Counseling, and for Upward Bound Saturday,
hosted by Ouachita’s TRIO program.
Upward Bound, a TRIO program, encourages youth to begin considering higher education
options. Terrence Carter, director of OBU’s Upward Bound program, said, “Our purpose
is to serve students who are underserved and make college a tradition in families
that it hasn’t been.”
The Nov. 6 Upward Bound Saturday marks the program’s second meeting of the semester,
and it will focus on driving safety.
“The Arkansas State Police will conduct the workshop for our students,” Carter noted.
He said they will speak about their experiences and will provide a golf cart and goggles
to simulate driving under the influence of alcohol.
This session will be held in room 100 of McClellan Hall from 10 a.m to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, the admissions team will offer prospective students their own Ouachita
experience. The students will have the opportunity to tour campus, meet professors
and attend a Ouachita a football game.
“I think Preview Day is a great day for students to come and get a snapshot of OBU,”
said Lori Motl, director of admissions counseling.
Registration for Preview Day begins at 8:30 a.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center followed
by an opening session at 9 a.m. that addresses financial aid and introduces students
to their admissions counselors. Prospective students will then have the opportunity
to take a campus tour at 10 a.m., and an academic session follows at 11 a.m. Visitors
are invited to attend the Tiger Tailgate at 12 noon before the 1 p.m. Tiger football
game at A.U. Williams Field.
