Ouachita welcomes prospective students for Preview Day and Tiger Monday
February 17, 2011 - OBU News Bureau
Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Admissions Counseling will welcome prospective
students and their families to campus for Spring Preview Day on Saturday, Feb. 19,
and for Tiger Monday the following Monday, Feb. 21.
Lori Motl, Ouachita’s director of admissions counseling, said that Preview Day “is
a great time to get in a Saturday visit if you just can’t make it here during the
week – not to mention that students will be here on a day when baseball and basketball
teams are playing and Twelfth Night will be going on.”
Preview Day will begin in Jones Performing Arts Center with registration from 1-1:30
p.m. The opening session at 1:30 p.m. will give prospective students and their families
the opportunity to visit with Susan Hurst, OBU’s director of Student Financial Services,
as well as Ouachita alumni and admissions counselors. President Rex Horne will also
be present to welcome guests to campus.
After the opening sessions, admissions counselors and members of the Ouachita Student
Foundation will lead campus tours, and at 3 p.m., Ouachita’s academic deans will be
available to visit with students interested in their particular disciplines.
Additionally, the Tiger and Lady Tiger basketball teams take on the University of
Arkansas-Monticello at Bill Vining Arena beginning at 3 p.m. Ouachita’s department
of theatre arts will present Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre. Guests are welcome to attend as many of these events
as their schedule allows.
The following Monday, Feb. 21, Tiger Monday will offer similar opportunities to visiting
prospective students.
“These days are for anyone interested in coming to OBU, whether they have a mild interest
or already have OBU stickers on their car,” said Motl. “Tiger Days are some of the
best days to visit campus. Students and their families get to tour campus, meet with
deans, attend class, hear from administration and have lunch on campus. It is a great
snapshot of life on campus."
Tiger Monday will open with registration at Young Auditorium in Hickingbotham Hall
from 8:30-9 a.m. The 9 a.m. opening session will introduce guests to the university
as well as their specific admissions counselors. It is immediately followed by an
opportunity for students and their families to meet with OBU’s academic deans and
then a campus tour.
At 11 a.m., students will have the opportunity to attend a class of their choosing,
while parents are invited to visit with administrators for a question and answer session
in Berry Chapel. Visitors are invited to eat lunch in the Alumni Room of the Ouachita
Commons at noon, followed by a tour of Ouachita’s residence halls.
