OBU hosts 10-Minute Play Festival March 12
March 10, 2011 - Rudy Jones
Ouachita Baptist University will host the 9th annual 10-Minute Play Festival on Saturday,
March 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Verser Theatre. Also known as All Night Theatre, the 10-Minute
Play Festival will feature five or six student-written and -directed one-act plays.
The festival is free and open to the public.
“All Night Theatre gives students from all different fields of study a chance to participate
in different theatrical roles, such as directing, playwriting and acting, without
the usual month-long commitment,” said Katie Willhite, a senior Christian studies
and theatre major from Rowlett, Texas.
Willhite, along with Rudy Jones, a junior theatre arts and mass communications from
Smackover, Ark., and Garrett Whitehead, a freshman theatre arts major from Cleburne,
Texas, serve as program directors for this year’s festival.
“All Night Theatre was my first chance to perform in a Ouachita production, so it
has always been really special to me,” Willhite said. “My hope for the production
this year is to provide an atmosphere that students feel free to express themselves
in different artistic ways to a receptive audience.”
Auditions for the festival will be held Thursday, March 10, from 5-7 p.m. in Verser
Theatre. Rehearsals will begin on Friday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. and will continue
through the night in preparation for the final show on Saturday.
