Mark Price, head coach of the Ouachita Baptist University men’s basketball team for the past two seasons, has resigned to accept a coaching position with Belmont University, an NCAA Division I school.

Price will serve as assistant men’s basketball coach at Belmont. Prior to coaching at Ouachita, he spent three years as assistant men’s basketball coach at Furman University, also an NCAA Division I school. He also has held coaching positions at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Faulkner University and the University of Mobile.

“I deeply appreciate the leadership Coach Price has provided to our men's basketball program,” said Ouachita Athletic Director David Sharp. “His teams displayed great enthusiasm and a passion for the game as he did.

“The quality of student-athletes that Mark recruited represented us well both on and off the court,” Sharp added. “I am very proud for him and his family in his new endeavor and wish him the very best.”

Ouachita President Rex Horne described Price as “one of the finest young men and coaches I have known. Not only is he a fine coach on the court, but he is a man of great character and Christian commitment. He has helped rebuild a program over these last two years. I pray God’s best for Mark and his family in the coming years.”

"I cannot express how thankful I am to Dr. Horne and David Sharp for the opportunity they have given me to lead this program,” Price noted. “Ouachita is a wonderful community of people, and I look forward to watching these players who are in the program thrive over the next several seasons. They have an extremely bright future and we feel that the program has been pointed in a very positive direction.

“We are excited about this new opportunity” at Belmont, Price added, “but are saddened to leave such great people here at Ouachita."

Price, a native of Kentucky, is a graduate of Samford University. He and his wife, Kara, are the parents of one daughter, Kate.
