Brass Impact to perform at Ouachita Oct. 17
October 12, 2011 - Waylon Slabach
Brass Impact, the 77th Army Band’s brass quintet, will perform at Ouachita Baptist University on Monday,
Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the
public.
“I realized some months ago that we hadn't sent a group to Arkansas in many years,
so I began casting about for places to play,” said Sergeant First Class Wayne White,
a non-commissioned officer in charge of the group. “I knew that OBU was where W. Francis
McBeth had taught, so I decided that the music program must be good and that we would
like to visit.”
“We are excited to host Brass Impact and look forward to their outstanding performance,”
said Dr. Craig Hamilton, OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director
of bands.
The 77th Army Band is based at Fort Sill, Okla. According to Army regulations, the mission
of Army bands is “to provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations
to instill in our forces the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens
and promote our national interests at home and abroad.” The commander of the band
is Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael J. Franz, and the enlisted bandleader is First
Sergeant Michael J. Plachinski.
Brass Impact will be performing throughout the week in Arkansas, with additional performances
at the Arkansas State Fair, the University of Arkansas, Arkansas State University
and the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
