OBU juniors Coleman and Harris to present voice recitals Oct. 21

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host junior music theory and
composition major Joel Coleman in his junior voice recital and Rachel Harris in her
junior vocal performance recital Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth
Recital Hall. The recital is free of charge and open to the public.
Coleman, the son of Terry and Lea Ann Coleman, is a native of Hot Springs, Ark., and
has been involved in Ouachita Singers, Concert Choir and the Welcome to Ouachita’s
World Leadership Team. He has also been named to OBU’s Dean’s List.
Coleman will begin his portion of the recital with “Vittoria, mio core” by Giacomo
Carissimi, follow by “O Isis und Osiris” from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflüte. He will then perform “Plaisir d’amour” by Johannn-Paul Martini and “I am the very
model of a modern Major-General” from Arthur Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. His recital will conclude with Richard Rogers’ “This Nearly Was Mine” from South Pacific. He will be accompanied by Susan Monroe on the piano.
Harris, the daughter of David Nancy Harris, is a native of Springdale, Ark., and has
been involved in Ouachita Singers, Concert Choir and Pi Kappa Lambda national music
honor society. She has also been named a Presser Scholar and a member of OBU's Dean's
List.
Harris will begin her portion of the recital with "Tornami a vagheggiar" from George
Frideric Handel's Alcosa, followed by "Il Bacio" by Luigi Arditi and "Gretchen am Spinnrade" by Franz Schubert.
She will then perform "Ah! Je veux vivre" from Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette and "Willow Song" from Douglas Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe. Her recital will conclude with "Alleluia" by Ned Rorem. Harris will be accompanied
on the piano by Phyllis Walker.
