OBU students Eskelsen and Garner to perform recitals Oct. 21

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Alyssa Eskelsen in her sophomore
musical theatre recital and Hannah Garner in her junior vocal performance recital
Friday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.
Eskelsen, from College Station, Texas, has been involved in OBU Women’s Chorus, Concert
Choir and Chi Delta women’s social club.
Eskelsen's portion of the recital will begin with Reynaldo Hahn’s “Si mes vers avaient
des ailes,” followed by Franz Schubert’s “Die Forelle” and Stefano Donaudy’s “O del
mio amato ben.” She will then perform Richard Rodgers’ and Oscar Hammerstein’s “Many
a New Day” from Oklahoma, followed by Kurt Weill’s “What Good Would the Moon Be?” from Street Scene and will conclude the recital with Stephen Sondheim’s “That’ll Show Him” from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Xavier Lagunas will assist Eskelsen on “That’ll Show Him,” and John Briggs will
accompany Eskelsen on the piano throughout the recital.
Garner, from Saginaw, Mich., has played the role of Zerlina in Ouachita's production
of Don Giovanni and is cast in the role of Papagena in Ouachita's production of The Magic Flute.
Garner's portion of the recital will begin with Gabriel Fauré's "Fleur jetée," followed
by John P. Sacco's "That's Life" and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Nightingale and
the Rose." She will continue with "The Singer" by Michael Head, "So Anch'io la Virtú
Magica" from Gaetano Donizetti's Don Pasquale and "Als Luise die Briefe" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Garner will conclude with
"My Eyes (On the Rise)" from Joss and Jed Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and "Easy as Life" from Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida.
