Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Admissions Counseling will welcome prospective
students and their families to campus for a Tiger Day on Friday, Oct. 21. In addition
to traditional Tiger Day events, a morning Keyboarding Day will be held for students
interested in majoring in piano.
“It is a great way for students to get to see campus, attend a class or two and visit
with deans and professors,” said Lori Motl, Ouachita’s director of admissions counseling.
“It’s a snapshot into the life of a student at Ouachita.
“I think it’s important for prospective students to have the chance to attend a class
and see what campus life is like for students,” Motl added. “They are looking for
a place to spend four years of their life.”
For students interested in majoring in piano, Keyboarding Day begins with registration
and welcome from 8:30-8:50 a.m. at McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center.
After the welcome ceremony, there will be a master class at 8:55 a.m., two presentations
discussing literature and pedagogy at 9:35 a.m., a faculty and student performance
at 10:15 a.m. and a tour of the Mabee Fine Arts Center at 10:45 a.m.
Keyboarding Day will conclude with lunch in the alumni room at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will
feature a roundtable discussion with current keyboard students. Mallory Moddelmog,
Ouachita’s director of career services, will also discuss careers in music, and scholarship
information will be available. Students may then move on to Tiger Day registration
at 12:30 p.m.
The Tiger Day check-in begins at 12 noon in Hickingbotham Hall. The opening session
at 12:30 p.m. in Young Auditorium will offer prospective students and their families
the opportunity to learn about the university and introduce specific admissions counselors.
The opening session is immediately followed by an opportunity for students to attend
a class of their choosing at 1 p.m. Parents are invited to visit with administrators
for a question-and-answer session in Young Auditorium. At 2 p.m., students and their
families will have an opportunity to meet with OBU’s academic deans and then take
a campus tour. The Tiger Day will conclude with a closing session at 3:30 p.m.
