Ouachita Career Services to host Internship Panel Nov. 2

October 26, 2011 - Jordan Campbell

Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Career Services will host an Internship Panel on Wednesday, Nov. 2, featuring Ouachita students speaking about their experiences with summer internships. The panel will be held in the Alumni Room in the Ouachita Commons at 12 noon.

"The goal of the internship panel is to allow our current students to share their internship experiences with fellow students and allow our students to gain knowledge and information about what it would be like to do an internship and what ‘a day in the life’ would be like," said Mallory Moddelmog, director of Career Services.

Moddelmog added that the panel is designed "to expose them to a variety of internships and the differences in the types of internships that are available and also to inform students on how each of these students went about getting their internships."

The panel will host a variety of majors with a broad range of internship experiences. It will be a casual event where students can come and go and participate in an interactive discussion.

"It's good for students to learn from one another’s experiences, and this is the idea behind a student panel,” Moddelmog explained. “They can hear firsthand from students who were out in the field doing internships and can take away a lot of good information based on their own personal experiences."

Moddelmog suggests that students begin researching for internships the fall of their sophomore year. Most internships are competitive, so the sooner students can begin learning about them and what types of internships are out there the better, she said.

"Internships help after graduation because you have networked and made excellent contacts, and it also helps to have a reference," Moddelmog said. "It also gives you a skill set while exposing you to the real world. You will come away with enhanced knowledge and skills that you can transition to the job you ultimately get after graduation."
