Freedom of Information Act Road Show set for Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Ouachita

October 31, 2011 - OBU News Bureau

The Freedom of Information Act Road Show, hosted by the office of Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and the Arkansas Press Association, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University.

The free informational workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Young Auditorium in Hickingbotham Hall on the Ouachita campus. Any Arkansan interested in learning more about the state’s public meetings and public records law is invited to attend the seminar.

“Our office has partnered with the Arkansas Press Association to host informational events like this across the state because we believe it’s important for all Arkansans to understand this law.” McDaniel said. “The Freedom of Information Act is an asset to the people of our state.”

The FOIA Road Show in Arkadelphia wraps up four events held across the state this year. McDaniel hosted workshops in Fayetteville, Little Rock and Jonesboro as well.

Participants on Tuesday will hear presentations from the Attorney General’s Office about the law’s applicability and its exemptions. Also scheduled are question-and-answer sessions and a panel discussion by journalists and attorneys.

Attorneys who attend the event will be eligible to receive two hours of Continuing Legal Education credit.

The event is free, but registration is required. Register by e-mail at [email protected] or call (501) 374-1500.
