OBU Concerto Competition set for Dec. 9

Ouachita Baptist University will host the sixth annual Wind and Percussion Concerto
Competition Dec. 9 from 3-5 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on
Ouachita’s campus.
The Concerto Competition is open to Ouachita music majors or minors who have completed
at least one year of undergraduate study and have received permission from their private
lesson teacher to participate.
This selective competition “showcases outstanding performers from the OBU instrumental
department,” said Kristin Grant, OBU instructor of music.
The competition will offer cash prizes to the first-, second- and third-place winners.
In addition to the cash prize, the first place winner “may have the honor of performing
with the Ouachita Baptist University Wind Ensemble on their 2012 Spring Tour,” Grant
said.
Students competing in the event include: Brooke Baker, a senior music education major
from Swansea, Ill., on clarinet; Elizabeth Baker, a sophomore music performance major
from Grapevine, Texas, on flute; Kelsey Bates, a senior music education major from
Marion, Ark., on horn; Debra Caldwell, a junior music education major from Siloam
Springs, Ark., on trumpet; Aubrey Elliott, a senior music education major from Bentonville,
Ark., on flute; Kathryn Lee, a junior music education major from Azle, Texas, on flute;
Bradley Lindsey, a junior music education major from Longview, Texas, on saxophone;
Megan Massey, a sophomore music education major from Weatherford, Texas, on bass clarinet;
Andrew McCraw, a senior music education major from Fort Worth, Texas, on tenor trombone;
Cyrus Morris, a senior music major from Katy, Texas, on saxophone; LeeAnne Polk, a
sophomore music performance major from Greenville, Texas, on flute; Crista Riggs,
a sophomore chemistry and biology major and music minor from Edmond, Okla., on clarinet;
and Elyse Senteney, a junior music education major from Plano, Texas, on flute.
The students will be accompanied by pianists Glenda Aldridge, Louis Menendez and Susan
Monroe.
