Ouachita to host Shaw and Baker in student recitals March 16

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Russell Shaw, tenor trombone,
in his senior church music recital and Elizabeth Baker, flute, in her sophomore music
performance recital March 16 at 2 p.m. The recitals, which are free and open to the
public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.
Shaw, a native of Mesquite, Texas, has been involved in Ouachita’s concert and marching
band, Concert Choir, Trombone Ensemble and Jazz Band. In August of 2011, he was licensed
into the gospel ministry.
Shaw will begin his recital with “Concertino Op. 47 No. 7” by Lars-Erik Larsson, followed
by “Blue Wolf” by Brad Edwards and “O Nata Lux” by Mark Thomas. He will conclude with
“The Old Rugged Cross” by George Bennard and arranged by Dr. Sim Flora, OBU professor
of music. For this selection, Shaw will be accompanied by Andrew McCraw, a senior
instrumental music education major from Fort Worth, Texas, and Bret Steed, a sophomore
music performance major from Idabel, Okla. He will also be accompanied by Glenda Aldridge
on piano.
Baker, a native of Grapevine, Texas, has been involved in Ouachita’s concert and marching
band, Wind Ensemble and Flute Ensemble and has been named to Ouachita’s President’s
and Dean’s Lists.
Baker will begin her recital with the third movement of Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Suite
in A Minor,” “Air a l’Italien,” followed by Philippe Gaubert’s “Madrigal.” Her final
selection will be the first movement of W.A. Mozart’s “Concerto in D Major,” “Allegro
Aperto.” Baker will be accompanied on the piano by Louis Menendez.
