OBU Division of Music to host Esmond, Mattson & Miller in student recitals March 30

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Kayla Esmond, Nicole Mattson and Jordan Miller in their sophomore musical theatre recitals March 30 at 11 a.m. The recitals, which are free and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.
Esmond, a native of Burleson, Texas, and a member of Theta Alpha Phi national theatre
honors fraternity, will perform Scott Frankel’s “Revolutionary Costume for Today”
from Grey Gardens, followed by Stephen Sondheim’s “Stay With Me” from Into the Woods. Next, she will perform a scene from A.R. Gurney’s The Dining Room. Her recital will conclude with Irving Berlin’s “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun. Esmond will be accompanied by Phyllis Walker.
Mattson, a native of Rowlett, Texas, and also a member of Theta Alpha Phi, will begin
her recital with Cole Porter’s “You’re the Top” from Anything Goes, followed by Jonathan Reid Gealt’s “Momma Don’t Cry” from Thirteen Stories Down. She will then perform a scene from Neil LaBute’s Some Girls. Her recital will conclude with Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich’s “Alto’s Lament.”
DeCarl Jones, a sophomore vocal performance major from Garland, Texas, will join Mattson
for “You’re the Top” and Some Girls. Mattson will be accompanied by John Briggs.
Miller, a native of Rockwall, Texas, will begin her recital with Marvin Laird’s “Born
to Entertain” from Ruthless! The Musical. She will then perform Frank Loesser’s “Adelaide’s Lament” from Guys and Dolls, followed by a scene from David Lindsey-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole. Her recital will conclude with Alan Menken’s “Suddenly Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors. She will be accompanied by John Briggs.
