Martin to perform sophomore recital at Ouachita April 27

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Meredith Martin in her sophomore
vocal performance recital April 27 at 11 a.m. The recital, which is free and open
to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.
Martin, a native of Garland, Texas, has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List
and is a member of Ouachita Singers and Alpha Chi national honor society. She has
been a finalist in the Arkansas state auditions of the National Association of Teachers
of Singing and has earned third place honors in Ouachita’s Shambarger Competition
for Singers. Martin is pursuing Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music
degrees in choral music education and vocal performance.
The recital will begin with Gaetano Donizetti’s “La Zingara,” followed by “Oh Quante
Volte” from Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti e I Montecchi and “Durch Zärtlichkeit und Schmeicheln” from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Martin will then perform “Chevaux de Bois” from Claude Debussy’s Ariettes Oubliées and will conclude the recital with “Spring” from Dominick Argento’s Six Elizabethan Songs. She will be accompanied on the piano by Phyllis Walker.
Chris Sumner, a senior instrumental music education major from Needville, Texas, will
