“New Beginnings” student exhibit on display at Ouachita

“New Beginnings,” an art exhibit featuring new and returning Art and Design students, is on display now through Sept. 12 at Ouachita Baptist University’s Verser Theatre Gallery.

“The exhibit is intended as one way Art and Design students can get to know each other,” said Donnie Copeland, assistant professor of Art and Design and chair of OBU’s Department of Art and Design. “Many are beginning their college experience here, taking new classes and learning new disciplines.”

Works on display include paintings, drawings, photographs and other media featuring a variety of styles, techniques and themes.

“Visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the diversity and quality of the exhibit,” Copeland noted.

Students included in the exhibit are: Erica Armstrong, a sophomore studio art and psychology major from Haskell, Ark.; Emily Coles, a junior mass communications and graphic design major from Plano, Texas; Michael Connell, a junior graphic design and computer science major from Little Rock, Ark.; Molly Freel, a freshman mass communications and graphic design major from Nashville, Ark.; Kelsey Frink, a junior early childhood education major from Marion, Mass.; Mary Ruth Gomez, a freshman chemistry and biology major from Conway, Ark.; Rachel Gregory, a senior English major from Malvern, Ark.; Emily Grigsby, a freshman studio art and mass communications major from Austin, Ark.; Libby Harrington, a junior studio art and business administration/marketing major from Hot Springs, Ark.; Melanie Herring, a freshman dietetics & nutrition and art major from Woodlawn, Ark.; David Hickernell, a junior graphic design major from Crystal Lake, Ill.; Katie Hopmann, a junior studio art major from Cypress, Texas; Andrea Lock, a senior studio art major from Stuttgart, Ark.; Adam Oakes, a junior graphic design and computer science major from Campbell, Texas; Courtney Sharp, a senior studio art major from Cherokee Village, Ark.; Aly Smith, a sophomore mass communication and graphic design major from Sherwood, Ark.; and Grace Thomas, a senior studio art major from Rogers, Ark.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is also available during evenings when other School of Fine Arts events are held in Verser Theatre. For more information, contact the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
