Ouachita’s fall enrollment tops 1,500 for third consecutive year

Marking a fall enrollment of more than 1,500 students for the third consecutive year,
Ouachita Baptist University welcomed a total of 1,532 students to classes this fall.
The 2012 fall semester total also is the second largest enrollment at Ouachita since
2003 when 1,538 students enrolled.
“It’s always exciting to welcome both new and returning students to campus at the
beginning of the academic year,” said Dr. Stan Poole, vice president for academic
affairs. “With our second highest enrollment in the last 10 years and with the renovation
of Lile Hall and several other academic facilities, we look forward to a great year
at Ouachita.”
Lile Hall, originally dedicated in 1973, was renovated this summer as the new home
of the School of Humanities. A dedication service is set for Thursday, Sept. 13, at
11:30 a.m. on the Ouachita campus.
Students also were greeted this fall with a major renovation of Evans Student Center,
including the expanded Evans Food Court and new Dr. Jack’s Coffeehouse.
According to Dr. Brett Powell, vice president for administrative services, “The objective
of each project was to transform existing areas to make them more student-friendly
and to meet the expectations for academic and student life facilities in today’s environment.”
