Career Services to host 4th annual Graduate & Professional School Fair Sept. 19

Ouachita Baptist University will hold its fourth annual Graduate and Professional
School Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Evans Student Center. Fifteen schools catering
to all majors at OBU will be represented.
Graduate and professional schools from across Arkansas and Missouri will participate
in the one-day event. Students should come casually dressed and should prepare specific
questions for the representatives, said OBU Career Services Director Lauren Land.
She also encouraged all students to attend, regardless of their classification.
“Graduate schools get very specific. It is good for students to think about it early
so that they can get the job that they want to get,” Land said. She also noted that
the fair gives Ouachita students a level of recognition among the institutions that
attend. “We want Ouachita to be on the top of their minds so they’ll know the caliber
of students we have.”
The casual setting is designed to make conversation between representatives and students
easier. Door prizes such as gas cards and gift cards can be found at the sign-in table
and many schools bring gifts as well.
OBU alumnus Sarah Anderson credits the fair with much of her confidence in professional
settings.
“There’s only so much you can do online or even over the phone,” Anderson said. “Even
if you don’t know if you want to go to grad school, it is a really good opportunity
to learn skills in communicating with professionals and learning what questions to
ask.”
The fair has grown yearly since its premiere in 2008. Career Services has paid attention
to the rise of interest in graduate schools from OBU students and is making it as
