DeCarl Jones, Lola McClendon and Andrew McCraw to present recitals Oct. 19

Ouachita Baptist University will host three student recitals Oct. 19 in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. Lola McClendon and Andrew McCraw will perform their sophomore music theatre and senior trombone recitals, respectively, at 11 a.m. DeCarl Jones will perform his sophomore music theatre recital at 2 p.m.

McClendon is a senior music theatre and Spanish major from Springdale, Ark. She is a member of Concert Choir and Ouachita Sounds and has been involved in Ouachita’s musical theatre and opera productions. Her performance will include: “Après un Rêve,” from Troi mélodies, Op. 7 by Gabriel Fauré, “Rastlose Liebe” by Franz Schubert, “Son pochi fiori” from L’amico Fritz by Pitro Mascagni, William Finn’s “Change” from the musical A New Brain, Stephen Flaherty “Your Daddy’s Son” from the musical Ragtime and “Fly Me to the Moon” by Bart Howard. Her accompanist for this recital is John Briggs, adjunct instructor of voice.

McCraw is a senior instrumental music education major from Fort Worth, Texas. He has served as the principal trombone in the Ouachita Wind Ensemble, was appointed principal trombone in the 2012 Arkansas Intercollegiate Band and also serves as low brass section leader in the Ouachita marching band. His portion of the recital will include three selections: “Concertino” by Ferdinand David, “Nessun Dorma” from the final act of Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot and the third movement of “Sonata” by George F. McKay.

Jones is a junior musical theatre major from Rowlett, Texas. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia national fraternity for men in music, Ouachita Singers and Ouachita Sounds. He will perform a number of selections, including: “Bella siccome un angelo” from the opera Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti, “Le chapelier” from Trois Gymnopedies by Erik Satie, “Tu lo sai” by Giuseppe Torelli, “Verborgenheit” by Hugo Wolf, Ben E. King’s “I Who Have Nothing” from Smokey Joe’s Café and Stephen Flaherty’s “Wheels of a Dream” from the musical Ragtime. McClendon will join Jones for this closing number. Susan Monroe, OBU staff accompanist, will accompany him on the piano.
