Ouachita Stories

Three Ouachita Baptist University students, Elizabeth Baker, Victoria Mantooth and Cami Willis, will perform recitals on April 26 in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The recitals begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Victoria Mantooth, a vocal performance major from Sherwood, Ark., will perform her junior vocal performance recital starting at 11 a.m. and will be accompanied on piano by Phyllis Walker, faculty accompanist. Her recital will include the following: Franz Schubert’s “Lachen und Weinen,” Richard Wagner’s “Traume” from Wesendonck Lieder, Giacomo Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicci, Gabriel Faure’s “Fleur Jetee,” Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Steal Me, Sweet Thief” from The Old Maid and the Thief, Pietro Mascagni’s “Suzel, buon di” from L’amico Fritz, William Bolcom’s “Amor” and Lori Laitman’s “Dreaming.” For “Suzel, buon di,” Mantooth will be assisted by Chad Burris, a sophomore musical theatre major from Van Buren, Ark.

Also at 11 a.m., Cami Willis, a musical theatre and church media/production arts major from Flower Mound, Texas, will perform her sophomore musical theatre recital. Her repertoire includes Richard Rodgers’ “Falling in Love with Love” from Boys from Syracuse and “Stepsister’s Lament” from Cinderella, “Act 1, Scene 1” from Neil Simon’s The Old Couple (1927) and Jason Howland’s “Astonishing” from Little Women. Faculty accompanist Terri Lucas will accompany Willis on piano.

Elizabeth Baker, a music performance and French major from Grapevine, Texas, will be performing her junior flute performance recital with faculty accompanist Louis Menendez on piano. Beginning at 2 p.m., her recital repertoire will include the following pieces: Bach’s “I. Allegro moderato” from Sonata for Flute in E-flat Major, Franz Danzi’s “III. Polacca” from Flute Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Astor Piazzolla’s “Café 1930” from Histoire du Tango and Philippe Gaubert’s “Nocturne et Allegro Scherzando.”
