Ouachita’s Pruet School to sponsor annual Pastors’ Conference Sept. 26
September 16, 2013 - Jessica Stewart
Ouachita Baptist University’s Pruet School of Christian Studies will sponsor the OBU
Pastors’ Conference in Walker Conference Center Thursday, Sept. 26, as an opportunity
for pastors from across Arkansas to get together for a time of learning and fellowship.
“Christ Is All You Need” serves as the theme for the conference this fall. Professors
from the Pruet School of Christian Studies will teach four different sessions on the
book of Colossians.
“Each year, the Southern Baptist Convention chooses a book of the Bible to study for
a Winter Bible Study theme,” explained Dr. Danny Hays, dean of the Pruet School. “Most
churches will study the book in January to March.”
The conference will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and brunch. At 9:30 a.m. worship
will begin led by Dr. Rob Hewell, professor of worship arts, followed by two teaching
sessions by Dr. C. Marvin Pate, the Elma Cobb Professor of Christian Theology, and
Dr. Joey Dodson, assistant professor of biblical studies. After a lunch break, the
final two teaching sessions will begin at 1 p.m. and will be led by Dr. J. Scott Duvall,
the J.C. and Mae Fuller Professor of Biblical Studies.
“The pastors will receive a good overview of Colossians, along with a presentation
of each chapter,” Dr. Hays explained.
Included in the $50 registration fee for the conference, attendees will receive the
NIV Application Commentary on Colossians. The cost also includes the study material
that is covered in the conference sessions, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
The Pruet School professors will also offer books they have authored at a discounted
price throughout the conference.
