Ouachita Singers new CD “Sing Me to Heaven” set to release Oct. 17

October 09, 2013 - Kate Cody

The Ouachita Singers, Ouachita Baptist University’s premier choral ensemble, is set to release their new CD, “Sing Me to Heaven,” at their fall concert on Thursday, Oct. 17.

SingMeToHeavenThe album is the sixth CD that Ouachita Singers has released in the last 20 years, with the previous CD recorded in 2010. Part of “Sing Me to Heaven” was recorded at the choir’s 2013 spring concert and the other completed in a recording session; 46 students sang in the recording of the CD.

“This recording is unique because it features music that Ouachita Singers have performed over the past three years,” said Dr. Gary Gerber, professor of music and director of choral activities. “When you have a new set of singers, you want to preserve their time in the group, and a recording is a great way of doing just that.”

"Singing together in Ouachita Singers has always been a very touching and emotional experience with a lot of hard work involved,” said Carli Sasser, a music education major from Crossett, Ark. “Listening to the songs we recorded makes me realize how well our hard work has paid off."

"Recording professionally was a great experience for us as a choir,” added Amanda Nitcher, a music education major from McKinney, Texas. “We were very privileged to get to do so and hope that those who listen to the CD will enjoy it.”

The 2013-2014 Ouachita Singers’ tour is also titled “Sing Me to Heaven” and will feature some songs from the recently recorded CD. To purchase a CD, visit the OBU Bookstore in Evans Student Center or call the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
