Faske to present guest trombone recital at Ouachita Feb. 6

Ouachita Baptist University will host trombonist Dr. Bruce Faske in concert on Thursday,
Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall, located in Mabee Fine Arts Center. The
concert is free and open to the public.
Dr. Justin Isenhour, assistant professor of music at Ouachita, is coordinating the
event with the hope that it will be an enriching experience both for students and
the community.
“It’s important for the students to be exposed to more music, and it’s good for the
community,” said Isenhour. “With music, so much is open to interpretation as different
performers make equally valid but unique decisions. In my teaching I try to be open
to that; hosting a guest artist on campus really reinforces this concept. Bruce is
a wonderful musician and I want our students to learn from his expertise.
Dr. Adam Haas, OBU lecturer in music, will accompany Faske on the piano.
The concert program includes “Oboe Concerto in D Minor” by Tomaso Albinoni, “Forever”
by Arthur Pryor, David Fetter’s arrangement of “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Giovanni Perluigi
da Palestrina and “Romance” by David Uber. The final piece of the recital will be
the world premiere of Frank Gulino’s “Southeastern Rhapsody.”
Faske currently serves as adjunct instructor of trombone and euphonium at Southeastern
Oklahoma State University. He also serves as trombone instructor at Colleyville Heritage
High School, Colleyville Middle School and in the Lewisville Independent School District.
Faske earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance from the University
of Alabama, his Master of Music degree from Baylor University and a Bachelor of Science
in Music degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Faske has performed with the Dallas
Opera as well as the Brazos Valley, Meridian, San Antonio, Starkville, Tuscaloosa
and Waco Symphony Orchestras. Faske is a trombone artist for the Edwards Instrument
Company and performs on the T396-A Alessi model trombone.
Haas holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University
of Colorado as well as degrees from Indiana University and Colorado State University.
He has performed with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta, the Loveland Orchestra and
the Colorado State University Orchestra. He has been featured in chamber performances
with the Fort Collins Chamber Players and the Colorado State University Chamber Orchestra.
He has presented at numerous conferences at the national and state levels and has
studied and performed at the Aspen Music Festival and the New Orleans Piano Institute.
