Megan Evans to present senior voice recital April 25 at Ouachita

Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present Megan Evans in her senior
vocal music education recital Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m. The recital, which is free
and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.
Evans, a Mesquite, Texas, native, has been a member of Ouachita’s Women’s Chorus and
Concert Choir and has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List. She is a student of Dr.
Maggie Garrett, assistant professor of music.
“This recital represents everything I have been working towards for the past four
years,” Evans said. “Dr. Garrett and I chose songs that show change and growth both
in my vocal abilities and my personal experiences.”
Evans will begin the performance with Giovanni Bononcini’s “Non posso disperar” from
Eraclea, followed by “Se nel ben sempre incostante” by Alessandro Stradella and “Oiseaux,
si tous les ans” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. She will continue with “Le Charme, Op.
2, No. 2” by Ernest Chausson, “Allerseelen, Op. 10, No. 8” by Richard Strauss and
Johann Strauss II’s “Chacun à son gout” from Die Fledermaus.
“Near the end of my recital, I have a set of songs that are sung from a child's perspective,
which have been a lot of fun to work up and are really different for the audience
to hear,” Evans noted.
These selections include “Animal Crackers” by Richard Hageman and Seymour Barab’s
“Foreign Lands” from A Child’s Garden of Verses.
The recital will conclude with two musical theatre selections: George Stiles’ “Being
Mrs. Banks” from Mary Poppins and Alan Menken’s “A Change in Me” from Beauty and the Beast.
Evans will be accompanied by John Alec Briggs, adjunct instructor of music, on piano.
