Tammy Barnes named OBU’s 2014 Support Staff Member of the Year
April 28, 2014 - Jessica Stewart
Tammy Barnes, administrative assistant in the Office of Campus Activities, recently
was honored as Ouachita Baptist University’s 2014 Support Staff Member of the Year.
“I am very honored to be selected by my colleagues to receive this award,” Barnes
said. “Campus Activities is the hub of the student center so we are always busy assisting
the faculty, staff and students in reserving rooms for meetings, events, etc.”
Each fall, faculty and staff members are invited to nominate candidates for the award.
The Staff Development Committee then reviews the nominations and makes a recommendation
to President Rex Horne, who makes the final decision.
"Every person on campus provides essential service, this is certainly true of our
support staff,” Dr. Horne said. “Tammy Barnes exemplifies the best. She carries out
her work efficiently and diligently. She is always at her post striving to perform
her duties in an excellent manner."
Barnes has worked in Campus Activities for 15 years. Barnes’ husband, Bill, also works
at Ouachita on the facilities management grounds crew. Barnes was nominated for the
award by her co-workers in Campus Activities and the Office of Student Services.
“Tammy is incredibly loyal to the university and to the people she works with,” said
Tim Harrell, director of campus activities. “It is because of her efforts that much
of campus life goes so smoothly.”
