Thirty-nine Ouachita students named to Who’s Who

Thirty-nine Ouachita Baptist University students have been selected for inclusion
in the 2014 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
The students were chosen for Who’s Who by OBU’s faculty, staff and 2014 senior class
based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular
activities and potential for continued success.
The following Ouachita students will be included in Who’s Who:
Tori Abellera, 21, is a mass communications major from Garland, Texas. A graduate of Naaman Forest
High School, Abellera has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List and has been honored
for her work on Ouachita’s yearbook, the Ouachitonian. She has served as freshman class vice president in Student Senate, student ambassador
for the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Tiger Tunes director for Chi Rho Phi women’s
social club and advertising section editor for the Ouachitonian. She also has been a staff writer and comic artist for Ouachita’s student newspaper,
The Signal. She has been involved in the Ouachita Student Foundation and International Association
of Business Communicators. She attends Fellowship Bible Church of Little Rock and
participates in a small group Bible study at First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
Abellera has worked as a barista, catering staff member and cafeteria worker for Sodexo
and has interned at Stone Ward, Mangan Holcomb Partners, Mitchell Communications Group
and Gateway Mortgage Group. She also has worked as a content manager at BIS3 and plans
to continue working in the field of communications upon graduation from Ouachita in
May.
Emily Anderson, 22, is a psychology major from Siloam Springs, Ark. A graduate of Siloam Springs
High School, Anderson has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List and Alpha Chi
national college honor society. She has served as a resident assistant in Ouachita’s
residence halls, on the worship team at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia and on the
leadership team for Campus Activities’ Tiger Tunes. She has been involved in intramurals,
Tiger Serve Day, Backyard Bible Clubs and Campus Ministries mission trips. Anderson
has worked as a camp counselor at Camp War Eagle. She will graduate from Ouachita
in May.
Kristen Barnard, 21, is a mass communications major from Hot Springs, Ark. A graduate of South Grand
Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas, Barnard has been named to Ouachita’s
Dean’s List and Homecoming Court. As student director of Ouachita’s photo lab, she
has received multiple photography awards from the Arkansas College Media Association.
Barnard has been involved on campus as public relations chair for Student Senate,
presentation director for Enactus and ministry leader for Campus Ministries. She also
has been a Ouachita cheerleader and member of Tri Chi women’s social club. Barnard
is a member of Crossgate Church in Hot Springs, where she has been a life group leader
for high school women. She has volunteered with ElderServe, Tiger Serve Day, Compassion
International, Enactus and the Clark County Boys & Girls Club. She has worked as a
phone-a-thon caller and admissions telecounselor at Ouachita as well as various positions
with Sky Ranch summer camp, Maurice’s, Dino’s Main Street Café and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Barnard and her fiancé plan to use their business
and communications skills alongside their love for missions to work toward ending
world hunger.
Hannah Bridges, 21, is an English major from Clarksville, Ark. A graduate of Clarksville High School,
Bridges has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and has been the
senior recipient of the Mrs. J.R. Grant Endowed Award. She has been a member of Tri
Chi women’s social club, Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society, Theta
Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies and theology, the Ouachita
Student Foundation, International Club and the Pruet Sisterhood. She has been involved
in Women’s Discipleship and Freshman Family Groups and has served as a little sis
of Kappa Chi men’s social club. She has worked in Ouachita’s Office for Academic Affairs,
as a tutor for foreign exchange students in ESL and as a middle school intern at First
Baptist Church of Benton. She also has been involved in K-Groups at Fellowship Church
of Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Bridges plans to pursue higher
education and begin a career as a high school English teacher.
Ashley Briggs, 22, is a worship arts major from Alexander, Ark. A graduate of Little Rock Christian
Academy, Briggs has been a recipient of Ouachita’s James Harrison Scholarship, Tiger
Network Scholarship and a vocal scholarship. She also has been named to Ouachita’s
Dean’s List. She has been involved in Ouachita Singers, Tri Chi Women’s Social Club,
Refuge Band and Ouachita Student Foundation. Briggs has served as a student ministry
and worship intern at Fellowship Bible Church of Little Rock and plans to pursue a
career in leading worship and student ministry upon graduation from Ouachita in May.
Barrett Burger, 22, is a biology major from Camden, Ark. A graduate of Camden Christian Academy,
Burger has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists. He has served as
internal vice president of Student Senate, president of Beta Beta men’s social club
and student ambassador for the Arkadelphia Area Chamber of Commerce. He has volunteered
at the Boys and Girls Club of Clark County with Ouachita’s chapter of Enactus and
has performed cancer research in Ouachita’s J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences.
Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Burger plans to attend medical school.
Hannah Bushey, 22, is an early childhood education major from Stuttgart, Ark. A graduate of Stuttgart
High School, Bushey has been a recipient of the Ouachita Scholars Award, Paul E. Kannis
Scholarship and Michael A. Davis Scholarship. She has served as vice president for
Panhellenic Council, volunteered as a small group leader for Veritas women’s discipleship
program and Freshman Family Group and has been involved in EEE women’s social club
and the Ouachita Student Foundation. Bushey has worked as a summer youth intern at
First Baptist Church of Bentonville, a children’s ministry worker at First Baptist
Church of Benton, a camp counselor at both Brookhill Ranch and Kanakuk Kamps and has
worked in Ouachita’s Riley-Hickingbotham Library. Upon graduation from Ouachita in
May, Bushey will teach first grade at eStem Public Charter School in Little Rock.
Rusty Butler, 22, is a worship arts major from Little Rock, Ark. A homeschool graduate, Butler
has been a recipient of the Tiger Network Leadership Award, Friends of Fine Arts Scholarship
and Virginia Queen Piano Competition honorable mention. He also has been named to
Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists. He has served as Campus Ministries’ Tiger
Tunes director and music director, Freshman Family Group leader, worship director
at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia, worship leader for OBU’s chapel services, keyboard
player for Refuge band and group leader for both Welcome to Ouachita’s World and New
Student Retreat. He also has been involved in the International Club and Coffeehouse
events. Butler studied abroad at Salzburg College in Austria. He has worked as a camp
counselor at Kanakuk Kamps and as a telecounselor in OBU’s Office of Admissions Counseling.
Butler has volunteered with Tiger Serve Day, ElderServe, Noonday, Men’s Fraternity
and the International Food Festival. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Butler
plans to pursue a career in full-time music ministry.
Amy Campbell, 22, is a biology major from Russellville, Ark. A graduate of Russellville High School
and the eldest of five children, Campbell has been named to Ouachita’s President’s
and Dean’s Lists and has been a recipient of Ouachita’s Edna Linn and Ouachita Student
Foundation scholarships. She has been a Homecoming Court nominee, a Tiger Tunes champion
and a Tiger Traks medalist. Campbell has served as chaplain of EEE women’s social
club, a ministry leader for Campus Ministries and a member of the Welcome to Ouachita’s
World steering committee. She has volunteered with TranServe, ElderServe and as a
Freshman Family Group leader and has attended Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia. Campbell
has worked at Kanakuk Kamps and at the office of Dr. Miranda Childs. Upon graduation
from Ouachita in May, she plans to pursue a career as a dentist.
Jared Carlin, 22, is an accounting major from Lubbock, Texas. A graduate of Lubbock Coronado High
School, Carlin has served as a Refuge speaker and vice president of OBU’s chapter
of Enactus. Carlin has been captain of OBU’s soccer team, earning two-time All-Conference
Academic honors. He has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Clark County and
the Pregnancy Resource Center of Southwest Arkansas. Upon graduation from Ouachita
in May, Carlin will begin working as an accountant for BKD in Little Rock.
Johanna Casey, 22, is a kinesiology/fitness major from Lowell, Ark. A graduate of Rogers High School,
Casey has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List and has been a recipient of the
Tona Wright Outstanding Kinesiology and Leisure Studies Fitness Award. She has been
a member of the OBU cross country team, earning Great American Conference All-Academic
and All-Conference honors. Casey has worked as a counselor at Kanakuk Kamps and as
an intern at First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia, First Baptist Church of Rogers and
New Hope Fellowship of Springdale. She has been involved in Campus Ministries’ Tiger
Tunes, intramurals, Phi Epsilon Kappa kinesiology honor society, Tiger Serve Day,
Arms Around Arkadelphia, Mission Arlington and Vacation Bible School. She also has
served as a leader for Freshman Family Group and Veritas women’s discipleship program.
She also studied abroad at the Universidad de Alicante in Spain. Casey plans to pursue
a career in student ministry and personal training upon graduation from Ouachita in
May.
Jacob Catlett, 22, is a philosophy and Christian studies/Biblical studies and theology triple major
from Malvern, Ark. A graduate of Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, Ark., he has
been involved with Tiger Serve Day, the Ouachita Student Foundation and intramural
sports at Ouachita. He has served as president and chaplain of Kappa Chi Men’s Social
Club, treasurer of Student Senate and men’s discipleship co-leader of Campus Ministries.
He has been an adult Bible study leader at First Baptist Church of Malvern and an
interim youth pastor at First Baptist Church of Nashville, Ark., and has been involved
at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Catlett
plans to pursue a career in missions, ministry or teaching.
Jake Coffman, 22, is a music major from Tyronza, Ark. A graduate of Rivercrest High School, Coffman
has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List. He has served as director of the Campus
Activities Tiger Tunes show and as a Tiger Tunes host. He has been a member of Ouachita
Singers, Concert Choir, Ouachita Sounds, Ouachita Student Foundation and Campus Activities
Board. Coffman has worked on the Ouachitonian yearbook staff. He has served with Tiger Serve Day and has been involved in Fellowship
Church in Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Coffman plans to pursue
a career in communications or music.
Michael Crowe, 21, is a business administration/finance and management major from Donaldson, Ark.
A graduate of Ouachita High School, Crowe has been named to Ouachita’s President’s
and Dean’s Lists and has been the recipient of Ouachita’s Presidential Service Award.
He has served as president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of Eta Alpha Omega
men’s social club, presentation team orator and entrepreneurial advisor of OBU’s chapter
of Enactus, chair of the Hot Springs County Relay for Life and an Arkadelphia Chamber
of Commerce student ambassador. He also has been a member of Ouachita Student Foundation
and the Hickingbotham School of Business Student Advisory Board. His business plan
team for PUREnovation won OBU’s Business Plan Competition as well as the OBU/Henderson
State University Business Plan Competition. He has volunteered for various campus
and community outreach projects with both Eta Alpha Omega and Enactus and has worked
as a State Farm Insurance agent. Crowe attends Second Baptist Church of Arkadelphia,
where he participates in Crossroads Bible study. He also has participated in a college
homegroup through First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita
in May, Crowe plans to attend law school where he will study corporate law with an
emphasis in mergers and acquisitions.
Ellen Eubanks, 22, is an English major from Arkadelphia, Ark. A graduate of Arkadelphia High School,
she has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List and received the School of Humanities
Academic Achiever Award, the Louise Searcy Bennett Scholarship and the Outstanding
Junior English Major Award. Eubanks has served as co-editor for Ouachita’s chapter
of Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society and has been a member of Alpha
Chi national college honor society, the Carl Goodson Honors Program and the Philosophy
Club. She has worked as a barista at the Library Café and Dr. Jack’s Coffeehouse and
as assistant director of outdoor recreation. She has volunteered with Tiger Serve
Day and Arms Around Arkadelphia and volunteers with First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia’s
youth ministry. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, she plans to pursue a career
in writing or editing.
Tim Ferris, 23, is a business administration/finance and marketing double major from Triangle,
Zimbabwe. A graduate of Hilton College, he has been named to Ouachita’s President’s
List and has served as treasurer of OBU’s International Club. Ferris has been a member
of the OBU swim team, earning two-time Academic All-America and three-time Academic
All-Conference honors as well as an NCAA Division II national championship in the
200 freestyle relay and the Hickingbotham School of Business Outstanding Business
Scholar Athlete Award. Ferris also has represented Zimbabwe in the swimming World
Championships. He has worked as a resident assistant, lifeguard and pool attendant
during his time at Ouachita. He has been a member of the Hickingbotham School’s Student
Advisory Board and Alpha Chi national college honor society and has served as a student
ambassador for the Arkadelphia Area Chamber of Commerce. Ferris has volunteered with
Tiger Serve Day and individual swim lessons and has been involved at Park Hill Baptist
Church in Arkadelphia as a Sunday school leader. Upon graduation from Ouachita in
May, Ferris plans to train for the 2016 Olympic Games, begin a Master in Business
Administration degree and pursue social and environmental enterprise as well as bivocational
ministry.
Kyle Fischer, 22, is a Biblical languages and Christian studies/Christian theology major from
Texarkana, Texas. A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, he has been named to Ouachita’s
President’s List and was awarded the Preben Vang Award for Excellence in Christian
Theological Studies, the Robert Stagg New Testament Greek Award and the Sophomore
Ministerial Award. He has served as a Refuge speaker and a Tiger Tunes host as well
as a member of Student Senate, Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club, Theta Alpha Kappa
national honor society for religious studies and theology and Alpha Chi national college
honor society. Fischer has volunteered with Tiger Serve Day, Campus Ministries and
Big Brothers Big Sisters and has worked in Ouachita’s political science and Greek
departments. He has been involved at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia in their K-Groups
and also serves as a supply preacher and worship leader. Upon graduation from Ouachita
in May, Fischer plans to pursue a career in ministry and higher education.
Kelsey Frink, 22, is an early childhood education major from Marion, Mass. A graduate of Old Rochester
Regional Senior High School, Frink was named Ouachita’s 2013 Homecoming Queen, has
placed first in the International Photography Contest and has been named to Ouachita’s
President’s and Dean’s Lists. She has been involved in International Club, Concert
Choir, Women’s Chorus, Off the Broadway drama team and intramurals at Ouachita, as
well as K-Group Bible study through Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia. She also has
been a member of OBU’s women’s soccer team, earning the NSCCAA Women’s Team Academic
Award. She has served as a Noonday leader, Women’s Discipleship leader, music director
of Campus Ministries Tiger Tunes and Freshman Family Group leader and on the women’s
panel for OBU’s Healthy Relationships Week. She has volunteered through Give Me a
Chance Equine Rescue, Tiger Serve Day, Backyard Bible Club, Vacation Bible School
and the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Frink has worked as a lab assistant at Wetherington
Center, waitress at Bittersweet Farm, interim children’s minister at Park Hill Baptist
Church of Arkadelphia and children’s intern at Church of the Pines. Upon graduation
in May, Frink hopes to pursue a career in early childhood education or missions.
Tim Horton, 21, is a professional chemistry and physics double major from Arkadelphia, Ark.
A home school graduate, he has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List. Horton also
has been a recipient of Ouachita’s Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry Award, the Harvey
Research Award, the Mondy-Provine Outstanding Senior in Chemistry Award, the Rowland
Memorial Outstanding Senior in Physics Award and the Freshman Chemistry Award. Horton
also was named the J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences Academic Achiever and
Ouachita Senior Outstanding Man. He has earned first place honors in Chemistry Presentation
at the Alpha Chi national honor society national convention and in Cell Signaling
Presentation at the National Institutes of Health Southeast Regional IDeA conference.
Horton has served as president of Ouachita’s chapter of Alpha Chi, special events
coordinator for Ouachita’s chapter of the American Chemical Society and member of
Ouachita Student Foundation. He has worked as a math and science tutor, undergraduate
researcher and chemistry peer instructor during his time at Ouachita and also completed
summer research at the University of California at Berkeley. He also has volunteered
as a resident assistant, conducted scientific demonstrations for local schoolchildren,
participated in Tiger Serve Day and participated in a disaster relief trip to Joplin,
Mo. He is a member of Fellowship Church in Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita
in May, Horton plans to pursue a PhD in biophysical chemistry at Stanford University
and hopes to eventually establish his own biomedical research lab.
Jenna Hurst, 21, is a Christian studies/missions and Spanish double major from Gurdon, Ark. A
graduate of Gurdon High School, she is a member of Beech Street Baptist Church, where
she is involved in the church’s youth ministry as well as missions to Guatemala and
India. At Ouachita, Hurst has been involved in EEE women’s social club, Pruet Sisterhood
and Veritas. She also has been a Homecoming Court nominee. Hurst has volunteered with
Tiger Serve Day and the Pregnancy Resource Center of Arkadelphia and has served as
a Freshman Family Group leader. She has worked at Arkansas Counseling Associates as
a mental health paraprofessional. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, she plans
to pursue a Master of Divinity in missiology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Alexis Kamerman, 22, is a Christian studies/Christian ministry major from Searcy, Ark. A graduate
of Searcy High School, she has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists
and has been the recipient of the T.J. Connell Communicating the Gospel Teaching Award
and the Outstanding Student in Christian Ministries Award. She has served as president
of Ouachita’s chapter of Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies
and theology and as a Campus Ministries leader for FAITH Evangelism Ministry. Kamerman
also has been involved in Tri Chi women’s social club, Pruet Sisterhood mentorship
program and women’s discipleship. She has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters
and Tiger Serve Day and has been involved in Crossroads college ministry at Second
Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Kamerman plans
to pursue a career in women’s ministry, focusing on biblical teaching and discipleship.
Amelia Lindsey, 22, is a biology major from Camden, Ark. A graduate of Camden Fairview High School,
she has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and is a Governor’s
Distinguished Scholar. She has been a member of Alpha Chi national honor society,
EEE women’s social club, Ouachita Student Foundation, Mat Maids, student Health Professional
Advisory Committee and American Chemical Society. She also has been a Kappa Chi men’s
social club little sis and completed summer research with Dr. Jim Taylor in Ouachita’s
J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences. Lindsey has volunteered with Tiger Serve
Day and the Pregnancy Resource Center of Southwest Arkansas. Upon graduation from
Ouachita in May, she plans to attend dental school at the University of Tennessee
in Memphis.
Clay McKinney, 21, is a business administration/finance and management major from Hughes Springs,
Texas. A graduate of Hughes Springs High School, McKinney has been named to Ouachita’s
President’s and Dean’s Lists and has been the recipient of the George and Fay Young
Scholarship, Victoria Martin Scholarship, Charles R. Baker Scholarship and the Ouachita
Student Foundation Scholarship. He has served as a ministry leader of Freshman Family
Groups and social director of Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club. He has been involved
in Student Senate, OBU’s chapter of Enactus, intramurals and Tiger Tunes. He has volunteered
in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Tiger Serve Day and other projects through
Eta Alpha Omega. He has worked at First National Bank of Hughes Springs, as a camp
counselor at Camp War Eagle and as an America Counts tutor for Ouachita. McKinney
attends Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia, where he participates in the church choir.
Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, McKinney hopes to gain employment at a Fortune
500 company.
Asaf Moreno, 21, is a Spanish and English major from Mexico City, Mexico. A graduate of Instituto
Metropolitano Estrella, Moreno has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List. He has served
as a leader for Vacation Bible School, group leader for Welcome to Ouachita’s World
new student orientation and worship leader and Sunday school teacher at Iglesia Bautista
Misionera del Sur in Mexico City. He has been a member of OBU’s International Club
and Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club and a beau of Tri Chi women’s social club. He
has been involved with Ouachita’s chapter of Enactus, Campus Activities Board, Men’s
Fraternity Bible study, Concert Choir and Tiger Serve Day. Moreno attends Fellowship
Church of Arkadelphia, where he participates in K-Group Bible study and is a member
of the worship team. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Moreno plans to pursue
a career as a translator or Spanish teacher.
Grant Novak, 22, is a Biblical studies major from Haughton, La. A graduate of Airline High School,
Novak has served as spiritual director for Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club, as a
youth leader for Discipleship Now retreats and as a guest preacher and youth teacher
at Gennesaret Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. He has been involved in K-Groups
at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia, Men’s Discipleship, Noonday and International
Club. He has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Clark County, First Baptist
Church of Arkadelphia, Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia and High Ridge YMCA in Chicago.
Novak has worked as the city host for the Center for Student Missions in Chicago,
summer intern at Springs Grace Baptist Church in Shreveport, La., and as a Southern
Baptist North American Mission Board church planting summer intern with Mosaic Church
of Chicago. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Novak plans to pursue a career in
church planting through NAMB or Evangelical Covenant Church.
Michelle Perez, 22, is a political science and business administration/finance and management major
from Maracaibo, Venezuela. A graduate of La Peresentacion High School, Perez has been
named to Ouachita’s President’s List and earned the International Service Award and
the Bob Riley Outstanding Graduate in Political Science Award and was named the top
academic achiever for the Hickingbotham School of Business. She has been involved
in Tiger Serve Day and OBU’s chapter of Enactus and has been a member of the Hickingbotham
School Student Advisory Board, Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society for business,
Pi Sigma Alpha honor society and Alpha Chi national college honor society. She has
served as president of the International Club, student director of the International
Food Festival, volunteer coordinator for the Donors Banquet, OBU international student
recruiter for Zimbabwe and as an Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce student ambassador.
Perez has volunteered in AIDS prevention and education outreach programs in South
Africa and as a translator in Venezuela. She has worked as a tutor at OBU’s Speer
Writing Center and Academic Success Center, as a financial reporting intern at Organization
of American States Finance and Administrative Management Services in Washington, D.C.
and as a research intern at ALPFA Institute in Fayetteville. Upon graduation from
Ouachita in May, Perez plans to enter the field of international relations and diplomacy
as an ambassador for an international governmental organization.
Carli Sasser, 21, is a choral music education major from Hamburg, Ark. A graduate of Crossett
High School, Sasser has served as a Tiger Tunes hostess, sweetheart of Eta Alpha Omega
men’s social club and president of Ouachita Singers. She has been involved in Tiger
Serve Day and Campus Ministries Tiger Tunes and was named to Ouachita’s 2013 Homecoming
Court. She attends Park Hill Baptist Church of Arkadelphia and has been a youth intern
for both Midtowne Church of Benton and Beech Street First Baptist Church of Texarkana.
She has worked as a telecounselor in OBU’s Office of Admissions Counseling and on
staff at Sabine Creek Ranch. Upon graduation from Ouachita in December, Sasser hopes
to pursue a career as an elementary music teacher.
Megan Scarbrough, 22, is a biology major from Fayetteville, Ark. A graduate of Haas Hall Academy,
she has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and has been a recipient
of the Richard H. Brown and Edna Lin scholarships. Scarbrough has served on Student
Senate as secretary, freshman class treasurer and an at-large position; sergeant at

and has volunteered with Tiger Serve Day and the Pregnancy Resource Center for Southwest
Arkansas. Scarbrough has been involved with First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia and
Second Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. She has worked at Burger Life/Marketplace Express.
Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Scarbrough plans to attend medical school at
the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Buck Schroeder, 21, is an accounting and business administration/finance major from Conway, Ark.
A graduate of Conway High School, Schroeder has been the recipient of OBU’s Presidential
Service Award, Henry D. Powell Scholarship and Ouachita Student Foundation Scholarship
and has been named to Ouachita’s Dean’s List. He has served as vice president of his
class sophomore through senior years, finance director of Campus Ministries Tiger
Tunes, communications director of the Ouachita Student Foundation and beau of Tri
Chi women’s social club. He has been a member of the Tiger Serve Day leadership team,
New Student Retreat steering committee, Ouachita Student Foundation student recruitment
committee, Enactus, Traffic Court, the Eddie Ary Student Investment Fund and OBU’s
Student Dining Committee and Learning and Technology Committee. He also has been involved
in OBU’s Student Senate, Freshman Family Group, TransServe and Men’s Discipleship
and has participated in OBU’s European Study Tour and Crossroads Bible study at Second
Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. He has worked as an admissions manager at Wild River
Country and telecounselor in OBU’s Office of Admissions Counseling and has interned
with Echols, Thompson and Davis, Ltd.; Walmart; and Crain Buick GMC. Upon graduation
from Ouachita in May, Schroeder plans to begin working as a business analyst at Walmart
headquarters.
Ryan Strebeck, 22, is a biology and Spanish major from Texarkana, Arkansas. A graduate of Arkansas
Senior High School, Strebeck has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists
and was awarded the Spanish Major of the Year Award as a junior. Strebeck was selected
to present his undergraduate research to members of Congress at the Posters on the
Hill program in Washington, D.C. He has served on Student Senate, as an apartment
manager for Student Services, beau of EEE women’s social club, president and Tiger
Tunes director for Kappa Chi men’s social club and as a Tiger Tunes host. He has been
involved in OBU’s chapters of College Republicans and Alpha Chi national college honor
society and has volunteered through Tiger Serve Day, Kappa Chi and as a translator
at First Baptist Church Food Pantry in Nash, Texas. Upon graduation from Ouachita
in May, Strebeck plans to attend medical school.
Laura Strossner, 22, is a biology major from Conway, Ark. A graduate of Conway High School, she has
been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and is a recipient of the Walker
Pre-Med Scholarship and J.D. Patterson Summer Research Fellowship. She also earned
first place in the cancer session for her oral presentation at the National Institutes
of Health Southeast Regional IDeA conference. Strossner has served as vice president
of Tri Chi women’s social club and as a Welcome to Ouachita’s World leader and has
been a member of the Ouachita Student Foundation, Alpha Chi national college honor
society and Tri Beta biological honor society. She has volunteered with Tiger Serve
Day and TranServe, has been involved at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia and has participated
in mission trips to New Orleans and the Dominican Republic. Strossner has worked at
Magie-Mabrey Eye Clinic. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, she plans to attend
Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.
David Sypult, 22, is an accounting and business administration/finance major from Rogers, Ark.
A graduate of Fayetteville Christian School, Sypult has been the recipient of OBU’s
Presidential Service Award, the Margaret Wright Outstanding Senior in Accounting Award
and the Rotary Club of Arkadelphia’s Service Above Self Award. He has served as president
of the Student Ambassador Program for the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce, where he
also was recognized as OBU Student Ambassador of the Year. Sypult has served as project
leader for OBU’s chapter of Enactus and has been a member of Alpha Chi national college
honor society, the Hickingbotham School of Business Student Advisory Board, Beta Gamma
Sigma international honor society for business and the Ouachita Student Foundation.
He has been involved in international recruitment trips to Zimbabwe, has served as
a Life Group Bible study leader at Crossgate Church and has volunteered with Tiger
Serve Day, Freshman Family Groups and international mission trips. He has worked in
the accounting department of OBU’s Hickingbotham School of Business and as an intern
for Summit Bank, Walmart and Crossgate Church. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May,
Sypult will begin his career as a staff auditor at Ernst and Young.
Hunter Threadgill, 22, is a philosophy and psychology double major from Cordova, Tenn. A graduate of
Evangelical Christian School, he has been named to Ouachita’s President’s List and
has been a recipient of an Honors Program research grant, the Don Harbuck Award for
Excellence in Philosophy, the Weldon E. Vogt Outstanding Senior Psychology Student
Award and OBU’s Zeitgeist and Psychology Faculty Awards. He has served as spiritual
director and social director for Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club, president and
social chair of Ouachita’s chapter of Psi Chi national honor society for psychology,
Freshman Family Group leader, psychology research assistant and as a student affiliate
for the Association for Psychological Science. Threadgill has been a member of Ouachita’s
Student Judicial Council on Academic Honor, the Off-Campus Housing Exceptions Committee,
the Christian Focus Week and Healthy Relationships Week Leadership Teams, Philosophy
Club and Carl Goodson Honors Program. He also has been a member of Alpha Chi national
college honor society and Pi Gamma Mu international honor society in social sciences.
Additionally, Threadgill has served with Tiger Serve Day, TranServe, ElderServe and
Backyard Bible Club and is involved in home groups at First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
He has worked as a teaching assistant for statistics and general psychology classes,
assistant resident director and resident assistant at Ouachita and as a counselor
at Sky Ranch summer camp. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Threadgill plans to
pursue a PhD in psychology to teach at the university level or work as a statistical
analyst.
Kirby Von Edwins, 22, is a biology major from Little Rock, Ark. A graduate of Little Rock Christian
Academy, Von Edwins has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and
has been a recipient of the Outstanding Senior in Biology Award. He has served as
president and student recruitment committee co-chair of the Ouachita Student Foundation
and vice president, parliamentarian, secretary and special events director of Kappa
Chi men’s social club and is a member of Alpha Chi national college honors society.
He has been involved in Tiger Serve Day and Honors Chemistry II laboratory. He has
worked as a certified nurse’s assistant at Baptist Health Medical Center and camp
counselor at Camp Ozark. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Von Edwins plans to
attend medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Logan Webb, 21, is a Christian studies/Christian missions major from Benton, Ark. A graduate
of Benton High School, he has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists.
Webb has been a member of Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club, intramural sports and
Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies and theology. He has
served as a Freshman Family Group leader and with the ElderServe, Tiger Serve Day
and Big Brother programs. Webb has worked as youth pastor for Red Springs Baptist
Church of Gurdon, Ark., and is a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia. Upon
graduation from Ouachita in May, Webb plans to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological
Seminary and pursue a ministry career in international church planting.
Garet West, 22, is a mass communications major from Bolivar, Mo. A graduate of Bolivar High
School, West has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and has served
as senior class president and Tiger Tunes host. He has been involved in intramurals,
Backyard Bible Club and Campus Ministries and attends Second Baptist Church of Arkadelphia’s
Crossroads Bible study and K-Group Bible study at Fellowship Church of Arkadelphia.
West has volunteered in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and Tiger Serve Day.
He will graduate from Ouachita in May.
Mary Rachel Wolf, 21, is a biology major from Hot Springs, Ark. A graduate of Lakeside High School,
she has been named to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists and has been the recipient
of a J.D. Patterson Research Grant. Wolf has been involved at Ouachita as a member
of EEE women’s social club, the American Chemical Society and the women’s tennis team,
where she was awarded an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete Award.
She has volunteered with Backyard Bible Club, National Park Medical Center and Twin
Rivers Assisted Living and has served as a Freshman Family Group leader. Wolf has
been involved at First Baptist Churches of Arkadelphia and Hot Springs and has worked
as a certified nurses’ aid at Courtyard Gardens Health and Rehabilitation and a counselor
at Sky Ranch summer camp. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Wolf plans to attend
physician assistant school.
Will Wooten, 22, is a biology major from Conway, Ark. A graduate of Conway Christian School,
he has been name to Ouachita’s President’s and Dean’s Lists. Wooten also has been
the recipient of the Walker Pre-Med Scholarship and the J.D. Patterson Summer Research
Fellowship. He has served as vice president and special events director for Kappa
Chi men’s social club, co-chair of the fundraising and finance committee of Ouachita
Student Foundation and bass section leader of the Refuge Band. Wooten has worked as
a lab assistant in the OBU Department of Biology’s water lab and has volunteered with
Tiger Serve Day. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, he plans to attend Southern
College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.
Justin Young, 22, is a business administration/management and finance double major from Springdale,
Ark. A graduate of Shiloh Christian School, he has been named to Ouachita’s President’s
and Dean’s Lists. Young has served OBU Student Senate as president, chairman of the
finance committee, sophomore class president and freshman class president. He served
Beta Beta men’s social club as vice president, secretary, special events coordinator
and pledge class president, and has been a project leader for Ouachita’s chapter of
Enactus. Young has been a member of the Hickingbotham School of Business Student Advisory
Board and the Ary Investment Fund Management Team. He has worked as general manager
of Dr. Jack’s Coffee, intern at Tyson Foods and as a counselor for Kanakuk Kamps and
Sky Ranch summer camp. Young has volunteered with Tiger Serve Day, ElderServe, Big
Brothers Big Sisters, Healthy Relationships Week and the Thanksgiving Baskets Program.
He has been involved with Crossroads ministry at Second Baptist Church of Arkadelphia
and two mission trips to Honduras and has helped lead Men’s Fraternity Bible study
at Ouachita. Upon graduation from Ouachita in May, Young plans to pursue a career
in socially responsible entrepreneurship with his fiancée; they plan to open restaurants
employing a meal-for-meal business model to seek to end world hunger.
