Ouachita to host Ashton Edwards’ senior exhibit Nov. 16-Dec. 2

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host Ashton Edwards’ senior
graphic design exhibit in Verser Gallery Nov.16-Dec. 2. The exhibit is free and open
to the public.
The exhibit, “Coming Soon,” will feature a culmination of Edwards’ graphic design
work during her time at Ouachita. Beginning with pieces from her freshman year and
ending with pieces recently finished, the exhibit will walk viewers through the growth
and development Edwards has experienced the past four years.
Edwards, a senior graphic design major from Fordyce, Ark., said she is especially
excited for viewers to see that progression in her work. “There’s a beginning and
end from freshman year on. … As a whole, I want everybody to see how much I’ve grown,”
she said. “I hope everyone likes it.”
Works that will be featured in the exhibit include flyers and posters she has created
to promote businesses and events in the Arkadelphia area in addition to projects completed
for class that reflect her varied interest such as music and horror movies.
Edwards said her exhibit will be presented in a way that mimics how the work would
appear in the real world rather than a typical gallery display.
“My exhibit is my attempt at trying to show who I am as a person and an artist,” she
said. The exhibit “is going to be really different from the average gallery exhibit.
I consider myself to be different and even weird at times, and I feel that everything
I do should reflect that.”
Edwards said she began to develop her interest in graphic design during her high school
EAST (Environmental and Spatial Technology) class. In high school, “I got a chance
to do some programs for Homecoming. … Doing that and having deadlines was just an
adrenaline rush for me,” she said. “From there, I was like, yeah, this is what I need
to do.”
She said she credits her Ouachita professors for helping her turn her interest into
a future career. Assistant Professor of Art and Design Ferris Williams “has a lot
of different graphic design work under his belt other than just being professor,”
Edwards noted, “so I’ve learned a lot from him just how to be in the real world.”
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, contact OBU’s School
