Ouachita Baptist University is hosting guest artist David Hill in a ceramics exhibit, “Whole,” through Feb. 26. The exhibit will be held in the Rosemary Gossett Adams Galleries in Moses-Provine Hall on Ouachita’s campus.

“Having Dave and his ceramic works on campus will no doubt provide students who are interested in ceramics as a creative field – in addition to any students and community members interested in art in general – with fresh insight as to what art is, what it does and how it can be made,” noted Donnie Copeland, chair of OBU’s Adams Department of Art and Design.

Hill serves as assistant professor of art at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and previously served at Anderson University and Clemson University. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in visual art at Clemson and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Shorter College. His works have been included in exhibits throughout the southeastern U.S.

In his artist statement, Hill noted his interest in “the fragmented figure,” saying, “My work makes use of the fragmented form, both abstract and figurative, to explore the suffering, fragility and mortality inherent in life while alluding to a transcendence over those very things.”

He added that his work arises from the desire “to provide a place to examine the suffering we all experience and how it can be overcome. … Ultimately my goal is to meet the audience in the midst of their own circumstances and hint at the fact that there is hope despite the suffering, that in shared pain we can find solidarity and strength.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, contact Donnie Copeland at [email protected] or (870) 245-5559.
