Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts is hosting “Endeavor,” senior art
exhibits by Cait Crowell and Lauren Perry, in the upper floor gallery of Moses-Provine
Hall’s Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery through April 22. A reception with the artists
will be held in the gallery at 5 p.m. on April 17. The exhibits are free and open
to the public.
Showcasing work she has been commissioned to create during her years in school, Crowell,
a graphic design and mass communications double major from Lindale, Texas, will display
T-shirt designs as well as watercolors and paintings. Perry, an art and graphic design
major from Springdale, Ark., will exhibit graphic design work, paintings and photographs.
Citing designer Paula Scher who said, “It’s through mistakes that you actually can
grow; you have to get bad in order to get good,” Crowell explained, “All of my designs
were created after making mistakes. I see my work as a way of learning; in order to
create the best, I was required to first make the worst to see what works and what
doesn’t.
“I want people to see the blood, sweat and tears that I put into my work and that
it took a lot of trial and error to finally realize how I wanted something to look,”
Crowell said. “I also want every piece that I design to not only be something to look
at, but something to get an experience from.”
Reflecting on her own journey, Perry said, “I've been interested in art ever since
I could pick up a crayon, but it wasn't until taking a Photoshop class in high school
that I realized my love for graphic design.
“This exhibit is significant to me because it is a collection of the best pieces I've
done over the years, and it's a chance to execute all that we have learned and put
what our professors have taught us to good use,” Perry added. “I'm most looking forward
to the reception and having all our friends, family and professors there at one time
to show off all of our hard work!”
Regular gallery hours for the exhibit are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For
more information, contact the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
