Chelsea Villanueva to present senior clarinet recital April 8 at Ouachita
April 06, 2015 - OBU News Bureau
Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Chelsea Villanueva in her
senior clarinet recital on Wednesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be
held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus and is free
and open to the public.
“This recital means a lot to me because it represents my growth as a musician,” said
Villanueva, a senior instrumental music performance major from Bentonville, Ark. “As
a freshman I would never have imagined myself at this level of performance or with
all the playing experience that I have now. It truly is amazing to see all of the
progress that I have made.
“I'm grateful for this opportunity and all the time that my professors have invested
in me to help me grow and appreciate music even more,” she added. “When it comes right
down to it this recital is a testament to my love of music and how that manifests
itself in this performance.”
Villanueva has been a recipient of the Allen B. Wetherington and Friends of Fine Arts
Scholarships at Ouachita and has served as president of OBU’s chapter of the Collegiate
National Association of Music Education and vice president of OBU’s chapter of Tau
Beta Sigma national honorary band sorority. She also has been named to the Arkansas
Intercollegiate Band for three consecutive years.
The recital will include the following selections: “Clarinet Concerto, Op. 36” by
Franz Krommer, “Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra” by Aaron Copland, “Clarinet
Sonata, Op. 167” by Camille Saint-Saëns and “Fantaisie Italienne” by Eugene Bozza.
Susan Monroe, OBU staff accompanist, will serve as Villanueva’s collaborative pianist.
