Ouachita to host off-Broadway’s iLuminate dance company Sept. 15.September 08, 2015 - Brooke Zimny

Ouachita Baptist University will host iLuminate, a dance company that combines technology with popular dance in glow-in-the-dark performances, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 15. The show will be held in Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus, and tickets are $12 each.

“I am excited to have such an exciting and dynamic group at Ouachita,” said Dr. Gary Gerber, dean of Ouachita’s School of Fine Arts. “iLuminate has a great following of fans from their television performances, and I hope our students, faculty and community come and enjoy their fast-paced show.”

iLuminate made its national debut on America’s Got Talent in 2011, being called “the best new act in America,” and went on to a run off-Broadway at New World Stages in New York City. The internationally acclaimed company features dancers in electrified glow-in-the-dark suits performing choreography and illusions on a darkened stage.

The show is part of Ouachita’s 2015-16 arts series, coordinated by Adam Wheat, fine arts administrator.

“We endeavor to bring groups to campus that are energetic and provide valuable engagement opportunities for not only our fine arts students but also the greater student body and community,” Wheat noted. “I believe all ages will enjoy iLuminate's unique brand of visual story telling. They are recognized for their creative, innovative performances, and their show is an exciting blend of dance, theatrics and modern technology. Our hope is that those who attend will come away with a new appreciation for the power and art of dance, as well as having had ‘the most fun ever have in the dark.’”

In addition to America’s Got Talent, iLuminate and its artistic and technical director, Miral Kotb, have been featured on Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Made with Code events and more. The group comes to Ouachita from an international tour, including such destinations as Hong Kong and Malaysia.

“We are excited that our Art Series is bringing in well-known guest artist that have performed for large audiences around the world on national television,” Gerber said.
