Ouachita’s 2015 Pastors’ Conference on Sept. 24 to explore 2 Corinthians
September 16, 2015 - Meaghan Pollizi
Ouachita Baptist University will host the 2015 Pastors’ Conference on Thursday, Sept.
24. The event is sponsored by Ouachita’s Pruet School of Christian Studies and the
Arkansas Baptist State Convention.
“Each year, the Southern Baptist Convention chooses a book of the Bible to study for
a Winter Bible Study,” explained Dr. Danny Hays, dean of the Pruet School. “Most churches
will study the book in January to March, so we try to provide pastors with top scholarship
and teaching on that particular book early in the fall so they can use this material
for their own teaching.”
The topic of this year’s conference is 2 Corinthians, and the conference leader is
Dr. George Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union University in
Jackson, Tenn.
“The participants will receive a good overview of 2 Corinthians, along with great
resources to help them to teach this book in their own churches,” Hays added.
The conference is an all-day event starting at 9 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m.
Registration may be completed online at www.obu.edu/pconf. The conference cost of $55 per person includes Guthrie’s 2 Corinthians book from the Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament series, session notes
for preaching/teaching, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments, the opportunity
to purchase PSCS faculty-authored books at discount prices and fellowship with others
in ministry.
Guthrie has written 11 books, including 2 Corinthians and Biblical Greek Exegesis, co-authored with OBU’s J. Scott Duvall and published by Zondervan. He holds both
Ph.D. and M.Div. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Th.M.
from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
