October 09, 2015 - Cimber Winfrey

CHOuachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host Carter Harlan in his senior percussion recital on Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital. The event is free and open to the public.

Harlan, a music education major from Fayetteville, Ark., has been a 2013 OBU Concerto Competition winner, Hot Springs Music Festival participant, Percussive Arts Society All-Star Percussion Ensemble participant, 2015 Little Rock Coterie Award winner and an Arkansas Intercollegiate Honor Band participant.

"I am thrilled to be able to perform some of this great music in front of the friends, faculty and family members who have been such an encouragement to me these past four years at Ouachita,” Harlan said. “I tried to put as much variety into the program as possible, so I am hoping every member of the audience will hear something they can connect with."

Harlan will perform “Canned Heat” by Eckhard Kopetzki, “Eight Pieces for Four Timpani March” by Elliot Carter, “Amazing Grace” arranged by Eric Rath and “Shadow Chasers” by Michael Burrit.

The recital will also feature Aaron Breeding, a junior instrumental music education major from Springdale, Ark.; Van O’Rorke, a junior instrumental music education major from Hot Springs, Ark.; Abby Tipps, a junior instrumental music education major from Sulphur Springs, Texas; and Zach Willis, a junior music major from Redfield, Ark., on percussion.

Justin Massey, a senior instrumental music education major from Weatherford, Texas, also will present a recital at this time. Kayla Kreger, a senior choral music education major from Rowlett, Texas, and Taylor McKinney, a senior choral music education major from Little Rock, Ark., will present recitals earlier that day at 11 a.m., also in McBeth Recital Hall.
