Perri Adcock and Lauren Scarbrough to present senior art exhibit at Ouachita April 25-May 6

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host Perri Adcock and Lauren
Scarbrough’s senior art exhibit April 25-May 6. Their exhibit will be held in the
Rosemary Gossett Adams Gallery on the second floor of Moses-Provine Hall. The exhibit
is free and open to the public. A reception for both seniors also will be held in
the gallery on Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m.
Senior exhibits are presented by students of the Art and Design department both to
fulfill a degree requirement and to display the work they have created during their
time at Ouachita.
Adcock, a senior graphic design major from Prosper, Texas, and Scarbrough, a senior
graphic design and mass communications double major from Fayetteville, Ark., said
they were inspired to title their show “It’s Complicated” after reading a quote from
Paul Rand, an American designer known for his corporate logos, saying, “Design is
so simple, that is why it’s so complicated.”
“We were not trying to be snarky when Perri and I decided to name our show ‘It’s Complicated,’”
Scarbrough explained. “Truthfully, we struggled putting a name to all that we do as
designers; it is complicated to explain exactly what goes into creating a good design.”
Adcock said her portion of the exhibit is “a culmination of my favorite pieces created
during my time at Ouachita.” While at Ouachita, she has developed a design style that
she describes as “clean and unique.”
“In my mind, art is something that should be easily understood,” she said. “Good design
is not overworked; however, it does take great effort and time. Simplicity is an art
in itself.”
Scarbrough adds that her design style also has been influenced by her time at Ouachita,
saying, “Over my time at OBU, I have gained a love for clean and simple design, but
always seek to create a unique twist on each piece.”
The exhibit will include an array of designs from both Scarbrough and Adcock that
depict various takes on simplicity and structure.
“Perri and I are looking forward to sharing all of our hard work with our peers, family
and instructors,” Scarbrough noted. “We have both grown immensely as designers over
the past four years at this institution, and we believe that this show will provide
the perfect opportunity to showcase that growth and prepare us for our future careers.”
Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information,
