Ouachita to host Deborah Caldwell in guest trumpet recital Nov. 20

November 04, 2016 - Erin Jackson

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will host Ouachita alumna Deborah Caldwell in a guest trumpet recital Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus.

Caldwell graduated from Ouachita with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and studied trumpet under Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands. She has since earned her master’s degree in trumpet and currently is completing her doctorate in trumpet at the University of Georgia.

“I am extremely excited to have Deborah back on campus to play for our faculty, students and patrons,” Hamilton said. “She is a wonderful trumpet performer. Her sound is warm and her technique is flawless; it will be an outstanding concert.”

Caldwell has had experience performing and teaching at Interlochen Arts Camp, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Seoul Foreign School. She currently performs with the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Hodgson Wind Ensemble and British Brass Band.

The recital will include John Williams’ “With Malice Toward None,” Otto Ketting’s “Intrada,” Philippe Gaudbert’s “Cantabile and Scherzetto” and Alexander Goedicke’s “Concert Etude.” The show will conclude with “Concerto” by Alexander Aruturnian and “Quicksilver” by Peter Graham. Dr. Adam Haas, visiting assistant professor of music, will accompany Caldwell on piano and Dr. Hamilton will join her on trumpet for “Quicksilver.”
