Ouachita seniors Kimberley Attaway & Alexis Morgan to perform recitals Nov. 18
November 15, 2016 - Haley Martin
Ouachita Baptist University will host Kimberley Attaway and Alexis Morgan for their
senior recitals on Friday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. in McBeth Recital Hall. The recitals
are free and open to the public.
“This recital is a symbol of everything I have learned while being a vocal major here
at Ouachita,” said Morgan, a music education major from Frisco, Texas. “My peers and
teachers have seen me grow all four years so it's a sentimental experience for me
as well as those in the audience who have witnessed my singing career.”
“This recital will be a memory that I can look back on with pride and accomplishment,”
said Attaway, a music education major from Austin, Texas. “It really is a showcase
of all that I have learned in regards to voice during my time at Ouachita. The experience
has challenged me to extend outside my comfort zone and grow as a performer.”
Attaway’s recital will begin with “Ich folge dir” by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed
by Vincenzo Bellini’s “Malinconia, Ninfa gentile,” “Vanne, o rose fortunata” and “Ma
rendi pur content.” Benjamin Britten’s “Seascape” and Mark Hayes’ arrangement of “Lord
of the Dance” will conclude Attaway’s performance. She will be accompanied by Susan
Monroe.
Attaway is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society, Alpha Chi national
college honor society, Ouachita Student Foundation and Women’s Chorus. She has received
the Rachel Fuller Memorial Scholarship and has been on the President’s List. She also
has served a Tiger Tunes director and the Ouachita Honor Choir assistant.
Attaway and Morgan will perform Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu” between their individual
performances.
Morgan, who will be accompanied by Phyllis Walker, will perform “Fleur Jetée” by Gabriel
Fauré to begin her recital, followed by Émile Paladilhe’s “Psyché,” “Liebst du um
Schönheit” by Clara Schumann and “Lieb du um Schönheit” by Gustav Mahler. She will
continue her performance with Gaetano Donizetti’s “O luce di quest’anima” and several
songs from William Bolcom’s “Minicabs.” Stephen Sondheim’s “What More Do I Need?”
will conclude Morgan’s recital.
Morgan is a member of Ouachita Singers and serves as student conductor for Concert
Choir. She also has been a Tiger Tunes hostess and has been on the President’s List
and Dean’s List.
“The audience will laugh, possibly even cry, and take the songs to heart,” Morgan
said.
“They will definitely enjoy the lineup of repertoire featured in my recital.”
